hmm square enix protect their files i see.
i have an extractor called: Sleeping Dogs Unpacker.
thanks god i download it before its gone.the tool was made by xentax users.its way better than ninja ripper.
I would hardly call that "progress". If I can't even UV map a simple barrel how am I supposed to do a freaking car?

On the plus side, Ninja Ripper remembered how to rip torsos!
[t]http://puu.sh/3ALg2.jpg[/t]
It's supposed to be the SWAT guy from this scene.
EDIT: Apparently it only works with cutscenes. So still no characters.
Ah, good ol' Xentax. I knew they would come up with something.
Wait, how does this tool work? Does it simply unpack .big files or can it decompress .perm.bin files as well? Or does it extract the models in-game like NR?
yes yes the .BIG files.well its actually unpack the big files and from what i seen the big files contains textures and you can the find the models at XML cach there is where the BIN files.
Ah, good ol' Xentax. I knew they would come up with something.

here is the thread : http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9481
the download button is in the 7th or 6th page i don't remember but i'm sure the unpacker is in that thread.enjoy :)
Oh that. I already saw it, and unfortunately it's useless. It can in fact extract .big files, but it's not helpful because all the extracted files are in compressed .perm.bin format, and currently there's no way to decompress them.
So the situation is still the same: the only way to rip ANYTHING from this game is to use the piece of crap Ninja Ripper.
well this is a big problem.
Oh that. I already saw it, and unfortunately it's useless. It can in fact extract .big files, but it's not helpful because all the extracted files are in compressed .perm.bin format, and currently there's no way to decompress them.

Alright, here you go. Good luck. Hopefully someone can crack their compression/encryption.
Also, the audio is in .pck format. I think there's a way to open that, but I haven't found it.
thanks man.here we go...
Alright, here you go. Good luck. Hopefully someone can crack their compression/encryption.

the BIN files are my worst enemy.Square Enix heavily encrypts their files.
i'm gonna show it to a close friend of mine he is a top class moder.
but he is very busy extracting models and taking requests.
so you have to wait a couple of days.
Edit:
only 1 program can deal with BIN files its HEX Editor Neo.but its very hard and takes a lot of your time.and you have to be a programer to do that.
but hey mate its Not Impossible.

It's fine. In the meantime I'll work on some mass transit.

Well, of course it's not impossible, it's just that no programmer cares enough to do it.
Hopefully someone will eventually.
apperenetly all the games use BIN file.because its a tricky file format.but look on the bright side.we still have our facepunch moders.as you said someone will eventually.
It's fine. In the meantime I'll work on some mass transit.

man you really really need to see this!!!!

author quote:
So its out for those lucky North Americans. I want to get things going for modding so I will give the first member who uploads a legit mod a special prize. Most likely a sleeping dogs DLC code of their choosing, which will be gifted via steam. There will be many more prizes (DLC Gift's) in the future something like first mod with 1000 downloads etc which I will announce soon. I Will keep you guys updated with modding breakthroughs as they happen.
man He is Working on it finally!!!
think about it.the first one who upload the Mod means that he cracked the file format.
and they even hacked the textures!!! http://www.sleepingdogsmods.com/forum/multiplayer-development-project/28-some-pictures
I think he wants to stay under the radar so I won't mention him just yet.
I appreciate the enthusiasm, but there's really not much to get worked up over.
It's true, there are already several mods for this game, but they were all created by hacking into the .exe itself, not the .big files. There's really no way to edit textures or models yet.
Hopefully that won't take several years to change.
well let's stick with my friend.i will keep you with any updates.
I appreciate the enthusiasm, but there's really not much to get worked up over.

I have no idea what I'm doing.
Anyhow, HKPD Patrolman has been added to OP, hopefully someone can do this better than I can.
EDIT: I know. The reason it's not working right is because he's not in t-pose. Bleh, I can't do this.
It's something.
Holy cow, that IS quite the something! Awesome!
how in the world did you do that?i mean the bin files are the most well protected files in the games industry.
It's something.

No magic used. I'm remapping this from scratch using the OP files. That's why I chose this one first. It's boxy and shouldn't be too hard to map. Got a more recent progress pic:

Edit: Some parts may not be accurate, but I don't have the game, so I can't check. Using the internet and common sense for mapping^^
would you like to join me and SergerantJoe in this project?
me and him are working on extracting the models.
Edit: Some parts may not be accurate, but I don't have the game, so I can't check. Using the internet and common sense for mapping^^
Waho, I think you just about finished that already.
Also, if you need any in-game screenshots just ask.
EDIT: Screw it, I can just buy you a copy of the game. It's only $6 right now anyway.
we really making some progress in here :)
Waho, I think you just about finished that already.

Well, it depends. While this guy is breathing life into the vehicles, I have to deal with these abominations.
Also, if someone could put the patrolman in the OP into t-pose, I could most likely rig and texture him, as soon as I sort out those stupid heads.

I have Sleeping Dogs, but I sure as hell wont use DX Ripper (I think i'd use NInja Ripper, unless u using Ninja O_O) I Think I could try ripping, IF IT WONT TAKE LONG I'd also love to know how to make models in t-pose like BF3.
I couldn't get DX ripper to work with this game.
I'm currently using Ninja Ripper, and as you can see unfortunately it is a piece of crap that can't rip torsos or car undersides.
But by all means, try it. If you press the button and nothing happens, try running the game in 640x480 screen resolution mode.
I can't do this all by myself. We need as many people as possible.

What you said about the "Nothing Happens" you're Right, and im not sure how to get it in 640x480 I fixed it, but its giving me the textures, Wait wait, I pressed F10 (textures) F9 is the models. im an idiot
Right-click on HKShip.exe, then go to Properties->Compatibility. It should be a check box.

I got it working, but now it's not giving me the model, just the textures.
There are two buttons, one for models, another just for textures. Did you press the model one?
