Im sorry to be needy but could someone please make a mass effect texture pack for mapping because the basic hl2 textures dont do so so well when your trying to make a citadel map.
You can use Texmod.
Somebody mentioned a few pages back about a Thresher Maw. Does anyone know if they're actually possible to port?

Texmod is a ingame texture exporter. Also in texmod you can change texture format to .bmp or .dds. Check this out
Get VTFedit.
I installed vtfedit but get and error when I start it up, any ideas?
If it's the "side by side" error, and you're on a 64 bit OS, downgrade from 1.3.3 to 1.2.5.
If it's the "side by side" error, and you're on a 64 bit OS, downgrade from 1.3.3 to 1.2.5.
Thanks for responding I decided to download gimp and its plugin but if Im making a texture do I need the vtf and a vmt or just the vtf?
the vtf is the base diffuse texture. The vmt assigns properties to said texture. If you're just replacing a texture 1:1 all you need is a vtf.

Make sure you check the highlighted definitions, and look over vmts in other stuff to get a feel for what commands are and what they do. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Material
