BMS heads are varied and they're better than the old overused citizen ones, but I think there's better heads out there. maybe it'd be better if someone just ported a load of heads from different games as a resource; it'd take a while to do a good amount of them, but that's the best way I can think of to get both variety and quality.
"WE HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO USE EXCEPT BLACK MESA HEADS."
Default source heads?
Nothing wrong at all with those.
And the black mesa heads -do- look ugly.
Personally I find nothing wrong with the black mesa heads, but it all comes down to how much work gets put in and final product. With minimal effort of using a black mesa head, you only need to scale headgear to one base head, more or less, then compile & finished. There you have 20+ facemaps and tons of face morph flexes that we can use to change how the head looks.
Using source heads you must fit the headgear onto each head separately which can be fairly tedious, not especially difficult just very time consuming. There isn't anything wrong with them, they just take more effort and are fairly common.
Honestly, if I had the time and someone provided a fairly high-poly head mesh, I'd almost be willing to create face-morphs for them.
I've done it a few times as simple exercises in creating VTAs, and they're not too terribly difficult to make on a technical level.
I just don't know of any heads that'd be good to use as bases. If anyone has any suggestions, I may spend some of my free time (ha! Like I'll get any respectable quantities of that!) and make some facial-structure flexes for it.
I may be a complete failure as a modeller, but I love making flexes. :v:

Mass effect heads have some good normals/variety, just that seam on the face,
and they need retexturing.
Maybe look into some of the higher end MMos for a face too.
I find Sniper Elite V2 faces quite high quality. If you ever have time to do faceposing for those I can get you the rigged heads.

I modelled one of these in Blender a few months ago to practice modelling.
It's not textured or properly UV'd or anything though because I just don't know how to do that stuff, tried learning it in Blender but it's complex, and Blender is the only program that I find easy enough to use to model.
I do know how to get it into Source easily but it would be pink/black checkerboards, and you wouldn't want that I think

I can try it.
Be aware that when I say I love making flexes, that doesn't mean with necessity they come out looking decent.
So I'd be doing this more as a personal project than anything else - and if anyone finds themselves actually wanting them, then that's even better.
Toss them my way via a PM or whatever whenever you want. I'll slowly work on them.
If anyone else wants to work on them, though, be my guest. Don't wait on me, because chances are I won't even finish - and even if I do somehow finish, they'll probably be really crappy anyways.
If I get my hands on them, I think I'm going to do facial-structure flexes, before doing actual faceposing flexes, though.

The faces are rigged so the basic flexes shouldn't be too hard. I can send them about next week if I have some time.

What the fuck is a len?
Lenses.
And yeah they do look pretty bad, would be way better without the white outline.
Yeah, sorry.. I'm not thinking straight.

fuck you black mesa you are ruining everyones models with your goofy and horrible looking heads
fuck you black mesa you are ruining everyones models with your goofy and horrible looking heads
its only you and a few people that have been complaining about the heads
to be honest they're pretty useful and decent compared to the outdated and overused citizen heads.
AgentGuy - Is that HUNK from RE6? It looks fucking awesome either way. I bet the visor texture from Metro 2033 would look nice on those lenses. I can send it to you if you want.

not only do they look like fakefactory heads, they all look like oversized baby heads. their proportions are always so fucked up to the point where i think they're caricatures of babies

I agree to some extent. I think a FEW of the BMS heads have "large" foreheads. However, they are also 10x better and add a ton of more variety than the classic hl2 heads.
