you give FF too much credit. i'm guessing the FF heads only look close from your perspective because of the higher quality textures and their huge forehead which i agree is a big flaw. as for that, the heads from FF actually look like monster-like experiments gone wrong. i don't think i need to present to you how the heads and faces look, it would be a nightmare to the eyes of anyone who is sane enough.
If the BMS heads weren't so massive I think they'd be fine.

grab some custom face models from skyrim or oblivion; they're built for facegen which works in the same way as the BMS heads.

Another problem is they're not as varied as they might seem. Apart from all having huge foreheads, they all have small chins and jawlines that are too close to the mouth. It makes them all look like they came from the same mother. They just don't look varied and all have too much in common as well as this weird cartoony look to them.

Yes but bms is running the limits of the source engine as it is, if they were to add any more varients of heads the game would likely be even more unstable.

Not really. They could have easily had have about 4-6 base meshes for each gender which to work from. Instead of having only one. TBH I'll probably be using them in future stuff, next to citizen heads though.
It would be pretty cool if custom heads were made using the Black Mesa Source face system to help bridge the gap between these and the citizen models. I don't mind them that much, but I do feel that they have something off about them at times. Maybe I just like the citizen models too much to see them be replaced, though.

the face generation system isn't really extensive enough to remake the old citizen heads with. you could maybe get the vague outline of them down, but you'd probably need to modify the heads themselves in a modelling program if you wanted to get a worthwhile result.

Honestly, I think I would preferred citizen/Black Mesa heads headhacked onto clean L4D/L4D2 common infected, but that's just me, I guess. The model you're talking about would be okay, too.

I didn't necessarily mean the citizen heads themselves, although that would be rather cool. I just meant random, new heads created by the community.
