Does anyone have a resonable amount of experience with glow maps? I've made a glow map for the red dot sight on the holographic, but it turns the red into a pink when it's active. As far as I know I've done it correctly using white to illuminate the sight and black for the rest.
Is there a solution for this or is it just how the map works?
Are you using additive blending or transparency?
Transparency.
You have to use $additive if you want glow + transparency if I remember correctly
Holo isn't finished but this is what it looks like in Marmo with a quick setup, I'm not sure if I like it, I think Xoliul does a slightly better job.

you shouldn't bother modeling that extruded-in hear part as it doesn't modify the silhouette of the prop. I'm pretty sure you'll get a cleaner back without.

well i think you overdid the dirtiness.
Also, the rubber pad on the stock should not be reflective at all, nor should any of the plastic parts to that extreme. It's an awesome model though, kudos to you.

I don't understand why people say this, it's completely up to the person how dirty it will be, yes I know guns are usually well looked after, soldier wouldn't let his weapon get like that blah blah etc. But to be honest, a completely clean gun in a game is boring and bland to look at, you're supposed to try and tell a story when you texture not just slap on base colours and wala.

holy fuck why is maya so confusing to use. I'm trying to do a cup and do right click > face like I see on other videos but it isn't there.
to make it worse, the only youtube video I can find of modelling a cup is by some indian guy using maya 2008.

use the hotkeys:
F8 for object select
F9 for vertex
F10 for edge
F11 for face
pretty simple to remember
