I think I'm done with the model itself now, I'll add the rest of the detail with the textures.
post apoc mp5 texturing: day one. excuse the low quality image, I can't seem to find a decent image host.

if it's a post-apo weapon, shouldn't it be a lot more damaged? get some scratches and dirt in there, you could also have that paint showing the fire-mode wear off.

Why would someone wrap the handle?
That's real damn pretty, but I don't like the wrap on the grip either. I like using uppix for uploading images. If you have an account, it keeps all your images in your profile.
Why would someone wrap the handle?
Because over time, the material on MP5 series (and G36 for that matter,) get friction brushed away on the grip, making it more difficult to hold on to. Grip tape is a cheap solution, though I find it really uncomfortable.
Plate armor thingy wip. Design by a friend.
Plate armor thingy wip. Design by a friend.
Cartoony looking, and I'd bring the piece around the neck down because it looks a bit uncomfortable so high, but wow, looks very polished and well done. I might tone down the specular on the cloth bits a good deal though unless that's the desired effect. Very nice though.
I hope you guys don't mind me posting updates again so quickly. A look at the receiver and upper grip/barrel (I've added rust and more damage) [t]http://puu.sh/A9I5[/t] A look at the wearing of the plastic/rubber grips [t]http://puu.sh/A9I1[/t] is there a way to scale the image to fit instead of sitting half off the page so you have to scroll over as well? EDIT: thanks dude, that works
Use [t]imgurlhere[/t] tags. (Example Removed)
Here’s something I’ve been working on today. I was surprised to see that I had done all this in a few hours with not too much trouble! O.o This is one of the weapons that are in production for a Machiniman series that I'm working on. The idea is that this gun uses a new kind of bullet that has no waste, and as such leaves no shell behind. Instead, the gun has “gates” on each side to vent heat.

Also, I'm not sure what the large grippy-stick bit on the bottom by the actual grip is, but I think it might be neat to connect it to the other grip on the bottom, just a thought. And I don't know about venting heat off of both sides, if I was designing a weapon I'd make sure it was very difficult to injure the user in any situation, and I imagine if it somehow created enough energy to kill someone it would release a hellofalot of heat. Maybe vent the heat out of the front or something like that, but even then I know I wouldn't want fire spitting out near my hands in any direction. Still, it's very good work and looks like a well polished model. EDIT: Oh and how is it "50 cal" like you've engraved on the 'slide' if it doesn't use bullets?
Best looking MP5 I've seen so far. Great job MrBunneh!

Using WIC kevlar, COD:MW3 russian body, Kamarov's legs and boots and gloves, helmet from COD4, Goggles from Crysis2, Head from Homefront, Eyeballs from tlsaudrl's Russian President, .. etc. "Open C&C!" ps, gonna fix the collar.
Oh and how is it "50 cal" like you've engraved on the 'slide' if it doesn't use bullets?
He said it leaves no waste. He didn't say it didn't use bullets. It is possible to make a gun that uses bullets, but doesn't eject casings: Caseless ammunition. It's not something widely used, but he did say that it was a futuristic firearm, and with that comes an assumption that the problems with modern caseless ammo had been solved by then. It's possible to have a caseless .50 caliber round, or any caliber for that matter.
Railguns. Propel bullets without powder.
And coilguns. Similar principle to railguns. Like we said, there's plenty of ways to have a gun that doesn't generate waste shells.
Point taken, I must have misunderstood his post a bit. I actually feel a bit dull because I definitely knew about caseless ammo and railguns.

Things slip our minds all the time. We're only human. And if you happen to be an android or cyborg who happens to be reading this, fuck off and kill Sarah Connor already you dolt! Anyway, I actually kinda agree that the little front grip and the pistol grip should be connected, but I think that might spoil the uniqueness of the gun by making it look like a cross between Halo's M6 Series, Deus Ex HR's Zenith Pistol, and Mass Effect's Predator Pistol. He might want to keep the unique look his firearm has. If he does take your suggestion I'm sure he'll figure something out.
And if you happen to be an android or cyborg who happens to be reading this, fuck off and kill Sarah Connor already you dolt!
Sarah Connor could not be located; Resistance officers priority targets.
[t]http://puu.sh/ADmN[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/ADmQ[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/ADnP[/t] I'm aware the damage looks like shit, but hey, whatchu gonna do? teach me how to actually draw damage? HAH.
Need to keep working on camos.
I'm aware the damage looks like shit, but hey, whatchu gonna do? teach me how to actually draw damage? HAH.
The scratches do need improving, what I usually do is put a fitting metal texture (or whatever would be under it) under the top texture layer, I then use custom brushes to remove the top layer exposing the metal beneath, then sometimes depending on what texture I'm working with I'll put a 1 pixel wide stroke around the damage so it gives the slight illusion of layering, doing that and then throwing some normals on top usually looks good! And also it looks like you've UV'd the whole thing evenly if I'm not mistaken, it's better to give more UV space to the faces which draw the most attention or are closer to the player. Been working on this ak47 for my game. Any modelers wanna help me :)? Also created another 3 modular building unit pieces.

So I had this project I've pretty much stopped on. Basically due to other things, laziness, anger at remaking tons of UV maps so they bake well in UDK, noobness at UDK materials editor, noobness in general, hate for Maya's UV tools. Note: These assets weren't really intended to be optimized for a game environment. Though most of them could be adapted to be. Just dont yell at me for that doors polycount. Should I continue? Crits?
