Imo, the rocks should be much higher poly.
i agree strongly with this as the polygon density on the candles has a lot of disparity with the surrounding rocks (and im assuming probably the texel density too but i could be wrong)
No more shitty in-Blender screenshots wooo

That was in source so at very best it is lit per vertex. You are right tho the rocks do seem a littlesquare in parts. I'll need to make higher poly versions and LOD models it seems.

Little update, started modeling the first stage;

Is it supposed to be pinching here?

Yes and no, it just kinda happened and I left it like it, thought that it didn't look too bad

Progress on that very interesting door.
Ended up damaging it more than I had imagined I would.
Still have to work on the door knob.

Been playing chivalry lately and wanted to do this:

Do a Resident Evil door animation like I did with my door.

Looks cool dude, loving the metal. I'm not sure how big the shield is in Chivalry as its not used in combat but the arm brackets look a little small and wide (This is kinda a nitpick though so dont pay too much attention to it). Also I don't believe the type of shield has such a steep edge. Try to make that bolted edge look more like metal trim instead of a thick lip. Also the middle emblem seems to be leaking onto the outer parts of the edge. I would maybe even cut that part out and make it its own Uv island so I would be certain it is clean cut as I know how hard it is it make something follow an edge in the texture.
The recreated emblem also looks a little off, the red part of the bird seems to be too far away from the middle leaving it uneven. The baked normals look great but I feel you could up the contrast with some more vivid grime build up under the bolts as well as give the arm brackets/bolts some different metal tones rather than the straight grey. Spec looks good in most places.
Its a cool shield though, keep up the good work!

feels a little like metal on the edges eh?

Haha, I might just do that! Brilliant idea.
feels a little like metal on the edges eh?
That's most likely because of the desaturated post-processing, it looks fine to me, but I'll see if there's anything I can do about it.
I promise to stop posting this stupid barrel soon. Can anyone help me make a decent looking cap? I'm having trouble getting all the detail to look right, like here:

I also can't make diffuses for shit - I've got that tutorial for the metal door thing saved, and I know Millenia did a tutorial, but I only have GIMP so my stuff comes out looking crap.

That looks good in my opinion. It's a bit hard to see because of how bright it is. Just lower the inside of the cap a bit and add the hole/things for the fluid and you're good to go.
Yeah, I keep thinking the inside of the cap needs to be lower, but haven't quite worked out the best way to do that while keeping the rim looking alright.
Yeah, I keep thinking the inside of the cap needs to be lower, but haven't quite worked out the best way to do that while keeping the rim looking alright.
Just lower the cap and add additional loops on the rim if it needs to look sharper.
Here you go.

Dude, that's awesome, thanks
So I made that breakdown. Hope someone will find it useful.

If you find spelling errors or whatever please tell me and I'll fix it up.
That is very helpful. I liked the end result.
I'll be sure to go to hell later!

I'm looking at the model now and it's still a mystery to me how you made that mechanism on top, it's ridiculously complex

awesome man, have you seen Quixel's new amazing tool, dDo? you should put your gun in there and see the results you can get.
Yeah I saw that. Looks pretty cool but I feel I want to get better personally before I make use of such a grunt work-saver. Really neat though. The guy who modeled the Cobra ran one of his gun models through it and it came out pretty well.
Do you use a tablet/pen, fewes?
Made the ends a bit deeper and added caps (modelled myself based on John's work, so without the complex bit). Hopefully I can get Blender to play nice with baking normal maps now.

Oh yeah, crap. Should probably have mentioned that in the breakdown. I use one of these but I've been looking to upgrade to an Intuos recently.

Definitely a good choice, got my Intous4 last year and haven't regretted it for a second. I can only assume Intous5 is just as good.
I'm getting a tablet with the money I get for Christmas, can anyone suggest some good tablet's for me to check out? Not crazily expensive ones though...
