Are we still posting near-first-time gun models?
Because here's this thing I've been making recently

nyeeeooourrrrwwwooooo
fictional WWI fighter
if I ever get round to finishing it and unwrapping it I'll probably do one texture with British markings and one with German

Does anyone have some good Xnormal tutorials?
Does anyone have some good Xnormal tutorials?
there might be some free tuts on DigitalTutors, Xnormal is pretty straight forward to use, you can add me on steam if you need help
The edges look a little soft but otherwise it looks nice.
It'll bake better that way.
This is turning out somewhat nice surprisingly. Forgive the crappy image though, 3DS Max didn't want to work with me on the render image.

Any tips on what needs to be improved?

How do you eject the magazine? Where's the safety/fire mode selector? Also it's missing ironsights or any place to put optics.
Nice model otherwise.

Safety/Fire is selected with thought, ejection of magazine also and where you aim is shown on a hud.
John your modelling is fantastic, but your texturing still needs a lot of work.

Which one in particular? You know that last crate I posted was just a high poly model with basic color, a caution tape texture, and a metal texture overlaid in Photoshop- it wasn't textured.

Winston is your plane based off any real plane?
Winston is your plane based off any real plane?
I drew inspiration from three planes mainly; Nieuport 17 (tail fin), Fokker DR1 (wings, tailplane, cockpit area) and the Fokker DVII (nose, engine).
If my internet will let me, here's something I worked on last night:

It uses[sp]6[/sp]512x512 textures, 4.5mb total. About 5K polys or something silly. No normal map. Final destination.
The model's pretty crap, but I'm happy to get it some colour on it.
I know nothing about guns so you'll have to excuse my lack of appropriate terminology but the back bit of the barrel above the receiver thing being a different colour to everything else looks weird to me. Also what's the blue tape on the suppressor for?

That is a pretty nice looking pokeball.

The extra geometry is to give it some degree of malleability.

Oh, hello again fast guy.
Might be a while before you see this finished, I'm working on it in my spare time when I'm bored of working on other stuff.
Heavy WIP obviously, but you can see where it's going.

Nice, but you should probably remove the smoothing groups off of any low poly parts as they can really mess with how it visually looks like(even during editing).
That mesh exists purely to show me that the proportions are okay and stuff, highpoly sections are remade later, so it doesn't really matter to me what the smooth groups are doing at the moment.
