• Gestures, new player animations

I'd go with amplitude more so than pitch, but unfortunately there is no way to interact with voice chat in gmod
Like SL had? Nice idea. This will be good for gameplay and machinima.
You could just have a bunch of mouth moving animations and have gmod pick a random one to loop when someone starts talking
I'd really love lots of animations, even ones that seem pretty random, like say flapping arms like wings. Just to see what the community will do with them.
That or a Superman pose would be great for noclipping
We need a way to add our own animations without having to override others.
Ok, here's my question. If we have animations on the playermodel. Can you include the model with hands only? And see if someoen like the idea of animating them too? for example Kamern's flying animation needs a model for hands. Also RP gamemodes will use those. Ok, let's see who likes this idea. Cheers
I think it would be better if it went to thirdperson during the animation. You know, like in TF2. Anyways, this is a brilliant idea. You should really add a facepalm gesture, unless the one at 0:18 was it.
We need a way to add our own animations without having to override others.
not sure if there would be a qway to do this, but perhaps have the animation package call a wildcard value that has to include PA_*.mdl and the * could be any name? (PA=player animation)
not sure if there would be a qway to do this, but perhaps have the animation package call a wildcard value that has to include PA_*.mdl and the * could be any name? (PA=player animation)

One of the animation files could have a "$includemodel" command leading to non-existent file named something like gamemode_animations.mdl. So custom gamemodes just have to compile their new animations with that name and have it in the right folder and it will be included.

The only thing with that is taht game modes would begin to overwrite eachother... wildcard calling is alot better in this regard...
Wouldn't only one gamemodes content load at a time? So other gamemodes animations would only be loaded if your playing that gamemode?
Wouldn't only one gamemodes content load at a time? So other gamemodes animations would only be loaded if your playing that gamemode?
Not sure if that would work.... but if garry can make it so...
Just a question about animations in general: Can you make the sprint_all animation work on everyone and be useable by our lua functions?
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4249868/Photo%20jan.%2013%2C%2019%2024%2005.jpg[/img_thumb] I would love you. [sp]For you silly blind people, thats a Kinect[/sp] [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline] If no "Direct" support, I could try helping out by mocapping some gestures with it. When the software comes out at-least.
Now I need to buy a kinect.
I have a kinect, I need a tutorial on this now.
Well, that video was some early version of a Motion capture program, that allows you to add animations to models. Though when I made some closer investigation, I saw that It has to "Record" the kinect footage first, THEN you can put it on a model. Though, If someone made a module, GMod could perhaps transform a Kinect skeleton into bone inputs.
If all this can be done with a Kinect, then a standard webcam should be acceptable...
If all this can be done with a Kinect, then a standard webcam should be acceptable...
The Kinect has in built depth perception and motion tracking so nope.
The Kinect has in built depth perception and motion tracking so nope.
Aaaah, alright then
The Kinect has in built depth perception and motion tracking so nope.
Microsoft pwns. Get a Xbox 360 now! More on topic, is there any way these animations could be implented for custom playermodels too?
Microsoft pwns. Get a Xbox 360 now! If the model is rigged with a proper source skeleton, It'll work. Also, I didn't buy my Kinect for even near use with the Xbox. Its been connected to it Twice, I use it even more as a Webcam.
I meant whether it will work with playermodels that are not included by default. Source skeleton all you want, when Garry updated Gmod with PHX, the custom player models didn't get any new anims, while the default ones did. And I just kicked off page 3.
Most of the Animations should be improved, otherwise the gestures will stick out.
About the op video - even if just hands moves, entire body moves too (also known as rule#1 of sick animations). I'm shitty animator though, but i could animate for food in my spare time. At least i got max rig for gman.
I like the anim, but I think it was too fast.
The anim needs much optimizing. Any place to get the max file of e.g. GMAN or sb like him bcs i don't want to animate a decompiled one :s
what if i have Play Station Eye?
Hot damn, if GMod got kinect support.... Would be quite fun to be able to link something like, walking with a mech to moving IRL
Well I'm going to play the role as the ignorant idea guy who doesn't know how to model! I think we need a good swimming animation, maybe a one handed pistol animation?, and a pick-up animation that plays when you pick up weapons/items etc. off the ground. Like your player leans over and picks it up or something. I'm not a good ideas guy.

garry, will the creator of the animation you choose get credits somewhere?
