Hexing.
Read the hexing section.
Funny, each time I asked a question, it was answered immediately next by the next part.
This is alot to read.

You should add "Everything you need to know about modeling" too, I for one would benefit greatly from it
Okay, now I have a models folder and a materials folder.
Where do I place them? I have gmod10.
Copy/Paste them into your second garrysmod folder,
C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/*account name*/garrysmod/garrysmod.
Anyone know where I can find the headcrab vmt's? I'm doing a little hex and I need the file.

I have hexed my skin and that works fine and it spawns ok, but when I do spawn it it comes up with those damned purple and black squares.

With an editing program why not, those that do not have models might replace your original skin and you'll have to follow the steps to hex it according to you needs.

Making a new texture it's pretty simple, just renaming a texture makes it new, heh.
In order to get that to work separately though, you need to edit the model with GFScape and re-root it to it, sounds tricky but it's easy.
cool
Wow, greatest tutorial I've ever seen in one post. You man earn a Best Employee of the millenium award.
i was wondering where the fuck this thread was

Really useful thread. Thanks a lot.
Gimp won't run photoshop plugins? BLASPHEMY!

Extract to your gimp folder. This will let you use Photoshop plugins...
For using Photoshop-plugins in GIMP the pspi.exe plugin for Windows has been created. you install this by extracting it to your GIMP installation directory (it will place itself to the lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins folder). After a restart of GIMP the Xtns-menu of GIMP's main window got a new item called Photoshop Plug-in Settings. When you click on it you can set a path to where your Photoshop-plugins are stored. GIMP will load the filters that are found in that folder at startup. These filters are added to GIMP's Filters menu.
