It'd be really cool if someone could make that armored truck.
If there's anything I'd like to see, it's a TDM style gamemode. Nigerians VS MNU VS Prawns or something.
yeah, but prawns would destroy the MNU and the Nigerian gangs with their awesome weapons and large numbers
EDIT: i think a sandbox/RP gamemode would suffice, with MNU/gangs being able to use only their weapons and vehicles, and the Prawn theirs
i dont think an intricate job based system is needed, because gmod is all about creativity, we create our own missions
maybe there could be some structure, like for instance the MNU trying to get the Prawn to sign wavers, the Prawn having to fight off hunger by building weapons, (maybe human enabled so that there is some point in MNU/Gangs buying them) then selling/trading them for cat food. The gangs would of course be buying and selling weapons and food to the Prawn.
So, why not have something to balance it out, like MNU and Nigerians being able to call in backup? Like my chopper with a sniper in it for the MNU forces and a pickup with a 50 cal machine gun or whatever for the Nigerians.

This thread is now my favorite thread on Facepunch. I just saw the movie, by the way. Best movie I've seen in a long time! Everything was fantastic! My favorite part is that it feels like an documentary, like it's happening right outside your own window :3:
All of this stuff looks great! Just wondering though, will we ever see that gravity cannon-like gun (I have heard it is called the vacuum rifle) as a SWEP?
Its from this scene:

Oh, I didn't see it in the list on the front. My bad.

You can find a screenshot of the Gmodicized version on the Arc Gun thread. Void did it, and it looked pretty much finished... but since he posted his finished Repeater, he hasn't posted since. Apparently he's still working, so hot damn, I can't wait!
i hope the barrel glows while it charges :D
Absolutely awesome stuff from all of you.

Also, here's a reference picture for the armored Toyota that MNU patrols use:

I believe the nigerian gangsters drive nissan hardbody trucks.

*whistles* Nice job finding that ref it will be perfect for making the nigerian vehicles, but the problem is how are we going to get them to work? VMOD and GMOW don't work anymore. D8

Why not download it and take some screenys yourself? and make a contribution to the thread in the process ^^
I've been seeing about getting the gaming community I'm with (Epsilon Community) to take a look at getting involved with this project, offering a possible server, helping organize a gamemode etc. I've been pitching them the idea of a roleplay/territory war hybrid set shortly after MNU originally took over control of District 9. Most of EC's roleplays have a science fiction theme and people are starting to warm up to the idea so I thought I'd pitch it here, see if it got the same response. Plus since I don't know the first thing about coding I'm curious to get an opinion on how doable the idea is.
Basically what I was thinking is something like this: You have one big server, one big expansive map. The whole map is divided into a number of zones or territories (if we're talking about a big map say 25K units square or more than probably 15-20 territories). Within each territory is a command point where players on a team can spawn and congregate. During normal gameplay players of each of the three factions (MNU, Prawns, Nigerians) can move through territories freely, access to weapons is limited to basics, people just go about their business roleplaying. But there's a twist.
"Stop shooting your going to turn this into a warzone!"
Let's say while an MNU patrol is wandering through a prawn territory, one of the mercs gets a little trigger happy and starts taking potshots at Prawns. Too many deaths in a territory triggers a sort of "conflict mode" in that area and it becomes capturable. During conflict mode, teams can gain access to better weapons and fight over control of the contended territory, after an objective is achieved (or kill count reached or whatever the circumstances for capturing a territory would be) conflict mode ends and the territory is no longer contended, now either still under the original team's control or under control of a different faction (on a related note each faction would likely have one territory permanently under their control like an MNU base or a Nigerian chopshop, a place where vehicles could spawn and where players could withdraw to during a battle).
During normal roleplay all factions would only have access to basic weapons and vehicles. The number of territories a faction controls would determine the weapons and vehicles they have access to during territory conflicts. For example (hypothetically):
- For the MNU
Controlling the least territory of any faction would keep them limited to basic rifles and probably no vehicles.
Controlling the second least territories would give MNU players access to better weapons (hmgs, sniper rifles, etc) and perhaps a few jeeps or apcs.
Controlling the most territories would give them access to the best weapons and maybe a chopper
- For the Prawns
Controlling the least territories would probably limit them to melee, maybe Repeaters
Controlling the second least number of territories would mean access stuff like Arc Guns, Coil Guns
Controlling the most territories would give the faction access to heavier weapons like the mortar launcher and maybe a mech.
- For the Nigerians
Controlling the least territories limits them to basic assault rifles
Controlling the second least territories gets them better guns, vehicles
Controlling the most territories gets them heavy weapons, rpgs, maybe turrets.
Basically, what you get is a gamemode that's part roleplay, part wargame where the balance of power is in a constant state of flux. Whaddya think?

Personally, it sounds like a ticking TDM bomb with control points thrown in. The only thing stopping it from turning into a constant bloodbath is the player's willingness to roleplay. Given what I know about RPers, I doubt we'll ever see it.
Nice, seems like an awesome gamemode, the concept would be great.
But I have to agree with Opeth, it could constantly get into a mess.

True, it definitely needs some kind of consequences or system in place to prevent it from turning into non stop tdming. I just couldn't think of anything. (:P)
Like I said it's just a basic pitch, it's far from refined.

Well, this is just a quick thought I had, maybe you could have something set so that per an ''X'' interval of time, you are alowed to kill ''X'' people.
Let's say your a prawn, your allowed to kill 10 people per day but you go over, you get kicked from the district. And as you gain more territory, you can kill more per day.
But Idk, this just came across my mind, it could have many flaws :P.

All new ideas have flaws. Just looking over what I typed there's a ton of stuff that probably wouldn't work. XD
It's not a bad idea though. Maybe some kind of variation on it instead of kicking though. Like if a faction kills too often or starts conflicts too often they get penalized or something.

See now there we go! If you get the combat into the actual roles of the sides, you'll get a much more enjoyable experience. Perhaps you could have MNU on a kill limit, the Nigerians on a district limit (can only take one or two districts designated by a leader role), and Prawns on a catfood limit. They get hungry, I don't know.
Prawns on a catfood limit. They get hungry, I don't know.
Hahaha!
What about taking the kill limit idea and applying penalties instead of kicking like say... players are only permitted so many kills (during regular gameplay of course, the limit would probably be suspended during territory conflicts) during a period of time, and if they go over that they lose access to weapons and stuff.
Like let's say a player is with the MNU faction, the faction controls the most territories and has access to everything, this player however went over their kill quota for normal roleplay mode for that day and so when a conflict starts they're stuck with basic weapons (more likely to get killed, less useful to the team). Maybe if too many people on a team go over the quota during standard mode the whole team suffers penalties during conflict mode?
Hmm, maybe.

Yah, but by the kicking I meant like, you are sent outside the district and you get on your own to find food and crap, not kicked from the server, only the Prawn area.
Or you could even be sent to the MNU testing facilty, and you get experimented on XD (as a prawn)
Wow, now we're talking, we're getting more and more ideas :P.
