this isn't highjacking as it's still for the same thing, just think of it as solution finding, later on in the project
Haha. Gotcha.
I thought it might be helpful to upload pictures of what the model currently looks like in the HLMV. Here's the model, invisible, with wireframing turned on.

Here's the same, but with wireframing turned off.
http://img543.imageshack.us/i/lightninginvisible.png/
I'm not sure that the HLMV has relevance anymore really, since the model won't load in Gmod, which is our target after all.
if the model works in hl2 than it will work in g-mod
[editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
just looked at your links, thats defiantly a texture problem
[editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
upload a link with normal mapping applied
[editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
wait no you already did that, upload with normal mapping off??
I guess that's true.
Nothing changes with normal mapping off I'm afraid :\
I'll try getting to this stage with a different model altogether and see if this happens again. If you have any other ideas though, I'd still love to hear them!
well try changing settings on your vmf using some bits an bobs on this page : http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/VMF_documentation
make sure your texture paths are right in your Qc and your vmf or it will be invisble, if you think they are the same double check that is most likely the problem
I admit I don't remember what the VMF is. Not the texture files right?
I admit I don't remember what the VMF is. Not the texture files right?
its the texture file with text
They both point to the correct folders :\ I'm completely out of ideas. Just to recap though:
I compiled the qc to Gmod's 'gameinfo.txt' using GUIstudio.
I put the textures where they need to be in Gmods folders.
I ran the half life model viewer, but it only reacts when the textures are in or out of HL2:Ep1's texture folder.
T.T
I'm sure I did something wrong here, I just can't tell what it is.
Also, just so we're sure this isn't the issue, HLMV is picking up both texture files since they both show up in the 'VMT's Loaded' box under the Model tab.
Could it have anything to do with the texture files originally being in PNG format? I used Gimp (and a third party plugin), to convert the PNG's to DDS files, and then used VTFedit from there.
Hey guys. I have fully rigged Genis Sage from Tales of Symphonia DOTNW, and I can't even get it to recognize the textures this time. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. At least Lightning knew that the textures were there...
------------------
Fellows, I fixed it! I found the issue within the code of the VMT file. The tutorial called for ""VertexLitGeneric". I hadn't realized that mine said differently. Let me see if it works in Gmod now.
Here's Lightning in Gmod! She has -tons- of issues at the moment, but I'm sure I can fix it up.
http://img38.imageshack.us/i/gmconstruct0069c.jpg/
Her cape is torn up for some reason, and she has a spike coming out of her head. She's also really stiff and spawns in this position, so I'm not sure what that's about. Oh well. This was my first try so I'll do better next time for sure! Thank you all for all the help!

Any chance I could download it to test it out myself?
Any chance I could download it to test it out myself?
Yeah, absolutely! I can tell you now though... Haha! It's not very good. Where should I upload it? I've never done it before... Let's see. Here ya go!
http://rapidshare.com/files/444191970/LIGHTNING.rar
If you'd rather me upload it somewhere else, let me know. I'm pretty sure everything's in there.
Also, I'm currently working on fixing Genis, and rigging Axl, from Mega Man X8.
After reviewing the tutorial, have deduced that Lightning is super stiff due to a bad phymodel on my part. I'm going back through and doing it over.

Rapidshare is fine, I take it the Genis you're talking about is from Tales of Symphonia?
I'll let you know how the model works out.
Symphonia, yeah. I think it's the sequel though. I'm working on Lightning now, and should have her done pretty soon.

I tested out the Lightning model and I will say, it was very stiff, but aside from her Saiyan spike it's pretty good.
Thanks! I was pretty happy with it for a first try. Still, it's not a ragdoll anyone would really want to use. So I'm gonna fix it as best as I can.
Lightning is well on her way to being completed. I figured out what I did wrong.
Also, I got Axl into the game, but he won't move at all. Sure enough, loading him in HLMV and clicking Physics Model shows him in wireframe plastic wrap XD I'll fix him after Lightning.
:O It´s good that the people it´s interesting on these. WindsorG, congratulations for your 1st model, i will test it soon. Also, for the image, looks pretty good for an start. T_T i really want to learn, but i don´t know what program to use (aside of 3dmax)
Hey guys! How're things going?

Wow, I thought this thread died.
Wow, I thought this thread died.
Has it? I think everyone just got a little busier. FPKawaii is still rigging, right? Someone had to say something sometime.
EDIT:
Haha... Maybe it has died.
Just so there's something to talk about, I'm getting a lot better at the rigging process. I almost have a GMod compatible Aqua to show for it too. I had to simplify her costume, because the flow-y part would cause a "bogus bone index" error if I tried to compile the model with them on. It's the low-poly model, and her textures are slighty blurry but it's coming along nicely. I did forget to set which vertices are joints though, so there's still that to fix. I'll have it done soon though. Imageshack is being FAKE AND GAY for me right no, so here's a picture of how she's turning out so far on my DeviantArt page instead.

So... is this dead?... I hope not.
50 % support.. its not that important, but it would be kewl
It´s really sad that this project has died...but i´m happy that Wind is doing at last one model
i hope to revive this project, i am going to rig terra in his armour
i hope to revive this project, i am going to rig terra in his armour
It's already been done.
Rig him in his normal outfit and I'll find the model somewhere...
I, myself would like to see the following converted into ragdolls, please.

Then make a new request thread, don't use an old thread that should be dead.

But won't that take up alot of space?
But won't that take up alot of space?
no not really, I mean threads are posted almost every hour and the sub forum keeps a page limit on how far you can look back if im not mistaken, so go ahead with making a new thread
