I always thought it was previous test subjects, or someone close to Cave Johnson (as evidenced by the login info with 'TRUST ME!' written next to it in test chamber 17 or 18), or even the crazy bastard himself.

It is. In fact it's the exact same shade of white as the turret since that's where I got most of the colors I used on this.

That's what I was going for. I used the turrets as a reference for how it should look, but it was way too shiny.
Looks too dark to be Aperture equipment.

Is that an Official Portal 2 Steam group?
If that was official portal 2 concept art, wouldn't it have a Valve logo, or watermark on it?

Decompile the model, and then throw it into your 3D modelling program, and FLATTEN SOME OF IT OUT.
Aperture Science Robots have some framework, some panels. This is just a reskin of a Star Wars Combat Droid.
