This may sound noobish, but is it models in models and materials in materials or the shit in addons?
If it's in addon format put it in the addons folder if not extract it straight to garrysmod/garrysmod.
Straight to the garrysmod/garrysmod folder. I don't think I ever released anything in addon format.
Addon format is good because you can delete stuff you don't like instead of searching through the folders to delete it.
I never add something if it doesn't have addon format, and if it's good enough I just convert it to addon format. It's not that hard.
