If the .nif plugins get outdated, can't you just export it from NifSkope and into a usable format? That's what I did when I ported the Power Armor Helmet.
Well since this was bumped, I guess I can post what I want. This tut and Mariokart's (The part abput props) have really helped me. Porting is addicting and fun for some reason, the scaling is a pain and so is finding out where the materials are to things. I still thank you for posting this, now I just gotta learn how to make ragdolls and I would be porting Super Mutants like mad
Did you ever try importing a HL2 citizen when scaling? That way you can fit things right away to the size you want, then delete the citizen once you are done again.

Like trying to scale the Point Lookout Confederate hat, I scale it and its to small. So I go back, scale, and its to big
Does this tutorial only apply to Fallout 3 or to other games as well?
How in the world did I miss this thread? But sweet now I can finally port from fallout 3
Bump but I've got a problem (seems like this happens whenever I try anything at modeling). Using 3ds Max 9 32 bit on Windows 7. When I go to import the .dds texture (Step 3), it doesn't show up in the available formats and when I go All Files and try it says it's not supported. I have all the right plugins installed. How do I fix this? Walk me through it, I obviously suck ass at this. EDIT: Nevermind, converting it to a tga and then importing it worked. Nice tut, worked like a charm.
Is there a 2010 plugin for NIF? Never mind, I've found something that works.
Gmax broke after a lengthy Install and registration. Saying: Interactive 3D Renderer initialization failed. Please check your device settings by using the -H command line option.

This happened, when I tried to load the "mirelurk.nif". What's wrong? (I have 3ds Max 2009)
Are there any smd exporters around for gmax? I found one but it doesn't seem to work...
I think this thread serves a lession and a point. Never use rapidshare, it's shit and you loose your files after awhile.
If I had a mod which adds MK2 Combat Armour (Gas masked.) and I ported their meshes, but I took the Textures from the Outcast Power Armour. Would that work and look somewhat decent?
