fixed it. i was changing lightmappedgeneric to $vertexlitgeneric by hand rather than by Tools>Create VMT.

Ok.... well i got my textures to work. but i think something went horribly wrong in the rigging process... I skipped (but i did read it) the part of the tutorial where he was fixing and weighting his verticies that were stretched out from where he had to put his model in a T pose. My models are already in a T pose, so I skipped that part. ANYWAY... here's the problem. Oh and btw zombie moose how do ya apply at least one texture in the bres model viewer since all the textures are in .dds or.tga and it won't accept them.
to view textures in the viewer you have to use brawlbox. open your bbres with it and browse the textures. right click the one you want and select export. when it asks for the format select .tex0. that should let you import it. turns out i messed up on the phymodel. forgot to add the skin modfier back once i split the model up.

yea well the shitstorm is far from over. now i have to deal with the collision model.
Collision models are the biggest bitch to do especially if the model is low poly, its why I had to make a different rig up for Luke so I could get a decent collision model, have any problems with that give me shout.

yeah don't worry about it to muxh just find a better translator and ya should be fine, on another note had a eureka moment last night after thinking long and hard about it I should be able to get all the dsc models with perfect uv maps intact with the process i have in mind just need max 9...

Just select the model, go to editable mesh>vertex mode, select all of your vert's and scroll down to the Weld section. In the first box change 0.1 to 0.01 and click the button to the left of the box. Viola.

Viola.[/QUOTE] cheers dude worked like a charm least I know someone who has more experience with max than I do >.<, should have this rigged and uploaded sometime tomorrow hopefully. and I have some bad news kinda....due to vista being a total bastard and not working at all max 9's installation has deleted all my .max files so i've lost every model i've ported....however since i still have all the smd's Its ok, however it means regetting any re5 models I lost thank god i backed up those damn smds.

Damn Vista... Honestly mate I feel for ye! I've got RE5 models / can get them all for you but they will still have all the flipped polygons, I have unflipped BSAA Jill and Excella if you would like them. ok that is a first... how does a application delete your files (they are stored in a folder that won't be erased without user intervention)... Max program can corrupt a file in use, but it won't delete them on it's own and the operating system (Vista, or other) will not do this... I think it more likely you manually deleted the file folder (when trying to fix it) for the program and at the same accidentally deleted your files... But then again with computers anything is possible... also it is more likely, that this could be a sign that your hard drive is failing, when files start disappearing like that... it is a very bad sign, also a virus can exist on your system that can target files in this manner. I myself had a drive go bad that still appeared to work, but that it simply could not find files in folders, that I knew contained files, but when I accessed them drive stated, that the folders where empty. If it was me, I would backup everything important to you and run a integrity test on the drive. As for the Hunter model itself, I believe it is the same model used in outbreak and the other hunters are from 0 or 1. They still look cool and a company is always going to reuse assets in a effort to save time and money.

They still look cool and a company is always going to reuse assets in a effort to save time and money.[/QUOTE] wow long post.... yeah max 9 installs a file called 'scenes' max 8 also had a folder called 'scenes' so there is the problem there, like i said i still have all my files just in different format ain't nothing up with the hardrive considering its brand new and hasn't failed me yet, there are no viruses on this laptop. And yeah the hunter gamma model is the same one as the outbreak one with a different texture for the skin.
