I see where you're coming from, but personally, I'm patient - I was just making a case/reply to DP Films on his claim that these characters aren't worth the effort - when in fact, these are models which deserve arguably the most attention.
Also, I will donate. Link to donate to him, pl0x?
Volfin and I are still working on the many different formats they have. Some people may be wondering why I haven't posted wip pictures of the alien or the characters, thats because anything skinned in the game uses a slightly different structure from the static meshes and reversing/understanding those is what we are currently doing.
http://puu.sh/dgl5q.jpg < not skinned (heres one anyway spoiler alert)
The animations the game uses utilizes the havok game engine (in the format of hkx), these are also what holds the skeleton data. Once again it's going to take time...
-EDIT-
Ok my unpacker now unpacks the animation paks and ui

I'll let the video speak for me

Most the vertex formats are now deciphered moving on to skeletons/materials

Great work dude! This excites the HELL out of me!
Good god that is nice. Can't wait to get at all these models and such, gonna be great for scenebuilds.
very very good !
Looks great. Can anybody share hair textures?
OH MY GOD.
I keep throwing my money at the screen, but I can't get the models any faster!!
Really awesome work !
Man I love this, cant wait to see more!
Awesome work!
Volfins work on skeletons

Integrated it into the pak tool so now the hkx actually has a proper actor name instead of a hash number. Much work is to be done but yeah wip
Have a look at the amount of bones the aliens tail has holy shit

You are a god amongst men. Keep up the good work!!
my god. thats alot of bones......will be worth it though, wont it. it means this alien wont end up like the AvP2010 Pred-Alien with its awkward tail.
and thanks for the great work. and thanks for keeping us updated! :D
Oh yea.
I hope, you finish it before X-smas

don't we all? but isn't that sort of 'wishful' thinking?
i don't know myself how difficult it would be to port/rig/whatev- a model from a game, like, TF2 or Counter strike or fallout or whatever. but from what i have heard, its quiet difficult and because Alien: Isolation is the way it is (the engine its built on i think) the models are apparently much more difficult to do then other 'normal' ones
i'm guessing it will take quiet some time before they are actually ready for use by the public. and i'm gonna wait patiently. if you rush something or someone, they might cut corners under pressure and the result would be....not as good as it could have been (that goes for episode 3 too. lay off valve about that people, they're only human)
but yea, it would be nice.....but almost....i dont know....it'd just seem....almost too good to be true. unless the one doing all the hard work is some sort of hacker or Source God i dont think they'll be ready for some time yet. i myself would give him (the hero of this whole request) another half a year before i'd expect anything to be ready to go, and even then, i'd still understand if it all wasn't ready to go yet
you know what they say. beggars cant be choosers.
though perhaps in the mean-time we could post pictures of specific things we'd like to possibly see get ported over before other things. or just have a chat in general, ya' know. to keep the thread alive and kicking and all that. (does facepunch allow that kind of stuff? are we allowed to post questions or chats on a request thread to keep it alive? it's better then simply posting "bump" but i dont know if facepunch would allow this thread to be full of people chatting about a game in a request thread to keep it afloat)
I'm heading to New Zealand in a few days for the Christmas holidays so don't expect anything from me Magister_Yoda and/or whoever else eagerly wants models. Like MIDGERM said this stuff takes time and I'm not the type of person to rush things. Volfin (friend helping) who is working on the skeleton stuff will probably be enjoying his Christmas holiday as well. I thank you once again to all those people who have shown their support for this and hopefully we have something for the new year.
Merry Christmas all!
Choo, Choo, all aboard the train for Hype city!
Choo, Choo, all aboard the train for Hype city!
the train will be making some unscheduled stops. what with Christmas, holidays and all. not to mention the real-world responsibility's of the one doing all the hard work.

if that's true, how did you lot get on?
if that's true, how did you lot get on?
with the belief that we could, and then just run at it while it's passing, trying to grab onto something before we fall off :v:
I have resumed work on this again
I can't give enough medal thingies to you... !! :P
Any news yet? The models look so awesome...

give him time. celebrate when he decides to update us on his work. need i remind you that this stuff isn't easy, and having to come back and inform us that he is still hard at work (he DOES have a life after all) seems rather pointless.
think of this as his private thread. he posts whenever he feels like it to tell us whatever he wants to tell us.
that way we wont feel the urge to ask him how his progress is coming along (pressure does not make perfection)
for instance. He has said he has resumed work on this again (halelujah!) now we wait. wait for whatever progress updates he deems fit to inform us of.
though i appreciate people keeping the thread alive. so i shall thank you for that

At the moment, volfin and I are pretty busy with some other stuff so for now until we sort out the havok skeleton stuff we have decided to release something out there so at least you guys can play around with the meshes unrigged instead of waiting another 2 or 3 weeks. Like least theres something to play with so end of next week hopefully should see the release of the beta paktool which supports exporting the scene meshes as OBJ files. This should also help with testing the tool and receiving feedback, like right now I think some UVs are not scaled to proportion. Anyhow if you have donated to this (some of you have) get in contact with me and Ill be sure to send a copy to you guys first early next week.
Heres one of the working Joes to play around with for the time being (might need to reset normals on this)

On another note I have no idea how they tint the texturemaps for the game have yet to look into that but they might be using vertex coloring to do that.

Request Ellen Ripley :)
Cripes... i've been "stuck" using the xenos models from Colonial Marines but if donating helps me get one step closer to even just un-rigged .obj's and textures from Isolation to work with... cra0kalo, just tell me where / how to donate and i'll do so generously and immediately.
:)
