So~~ if anyone would kindly point me towards a tutorial telling the most efficient way to port something from 3DS MAX to Source1, it would greatly speed up my progress.
Your best bet is to use the WallWorm plugin. It's very straight forward and easy to use, and it works really well. It supports most things you can do in source and if you ever get stuck you can look for tutorials on the creators YouTube channel or the WallWorm website. (Or even look/ask on the forum, the creator is active and will probably answer.) "You can build models, textures and levels inside one environment (3ds Max) and compile them straight into Source."
Also, what's the deal with Nibroc's models? Is he barring anyone from converting them to SFM/Gmod, now?
He don't know now how to convert his models to SFM/Gmod, generally. So he let the people do it by themselves as they want.
He don't know now how to convert his models to SFM/Gmod, generally. So he let the people do it by themselves as they want.
I thought I read that something happened with one of his models that caused him to stop downloads for his models.

If yes, then all you have to do it export them to smd, (make a physmodel,) write a qc file, convert the textures into vtfs and vmts, load the qc file in the mdlcompiler and let the compiler make the model for you. If they don't come with bones, you'll have to manually assign the vertex weights. You can use any text editor for the qc file, vtfedit for texture conversion and the mdlcompiler from the sdk or use crowbar.

Also, they're not really optimized for SFM, so I'll need help with getting them to that state.
I thought I read that something happened with one of his models that caused him to stop downloads for his models.
well I've stopped doing public model downloads as it got very obnoxious, I was always getting asked to port the models to GMOD SFM and other stuff like MMD, even thought I have no knowledge of how to do that (nor do I really care to learn anymore) and the only people who ever did use my models were modders and haft of the time they didn't credit me... However with that said, I am not against giving people my models if they can use/port them their self I just required to see if they have experience doing stuff (for a while I was giving anybody models as long as they asked and they would end up having no idea what to do with it almost as if they thought it was already ready for SFM/Gmod that or I would never hear from them again) (I also haven't been trying to going out of my way to get people to port my models, I rather leave that up to them if they want to do it)
I haven't been porting very many models lately as I've been wanting to get some of my long time projects done. Stuff like the pony ville School House or the Custom made Swatbot have been waiting years to be finished, and most of the time it's just me working on them. I do have plans to work on another of Nibroc's models, but that might not happen until at least I'm a bit further along with said School house map. Nibroc, We should talk sometime. Not necessarily about models, but still.
They're not rigged, and I dunno how to do so, hence why I need help. Also, they're not really otimized for SFM, so I'll need help with getting them to that state.
First you need a 3D editor which can export to .smd. Then you load the model and check how many verts it has. Source supports up to 32767 verts on 1 model, although 10000 should be more than enough. If it has more, reduce them. Blender has a function to do that easier afaik. Then make a skeleton for the model: place a bone where the model should be able to rotate and give the bones some easy to distinguish names. Then assign the vertices which should move with the bones they shall follow. Export as .smd and follow the steps up there.

That, and clinical issues keep me from having the patience to really learn, so I need someone more knowledgeable than me to help get it done.
Working on Boom Sonic's furs Normal Map which I dunno you guys will like it...or I should lower a-bit? I'm not great for making a Normal Map. Also, you will see I'm adding a $detail with original Specular Map from game on it, just make a texture brighter from original texture, and just modified Specular Map a-bit. [t]http://i.imgur.com/g4AYKuV.png[/t] Aaaand, working on flexes for Sonic right now. I've spread for hours figure out making a face-posers like current Modern/Classic Sonic's eyes by Apoc. Not really easy for big eyes cartoon lol. But I've a lot of things to do.
Extra detail is always welcome. I do have a question, do you paint your own fur, or do you use texture photography? (Before turning them into normal map, of course)
Extra detail is always welcome. I do have a question, do you paint your own fur, or do you use texture photography? Uh.. I guess you meant the textures ripped from the game already provided the fur, okay. I was painting texture for my custom model and sometimes I wonder how do I generate fur pattern and do I only apply it to normal (without diffuse) or what. Anyways, thanks for the reply.
i sure do like sticking dicks inside my gaping ass hole REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE MOONMAN MOONMAN CANT U SEE SPICS AND NIGGERS NEED TO HANG FROM TREES
Meanwhile I'm playing scale up the texture... Also, Normal maps. [t]http://i.imgur.com/FOyUwrQ.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/8SpDDr4.png[/t] Thanks to my friend for magic tricks. Planning to do for other Sonic boom characters, they're around 512x512 to 1024x1024 pixels for some characters.
Thanks to my friend for magic tricks.
Magic tricks huh :eng101s: Guess that you are the only working contributor for the time being (and others who are working on Archie stuffs!) I suppose I can be THAT person who asks, but since progress on Lost World has been... postponed, does that mean you are going to keep your Boom models private for the time being until (Lost World pack) gets released eventually, or you'll put it out to the public when you feel like it? I'm only assuming at this point because we haven't hear anything for months now. But please, you folks can take your time and you have all the reasons to keep your works to yourselves, I'm just curious.

I'm planning for Face-Posers, that's a lot of pains, and improved a things. So, I lets Apoc and RTB get working on Sonic Lost World pack. I've said they will release after Lost World models are DONE or so, I can't say that for sure. But it will be around that.... I meant for Source Engine though. I think the raw models are actually released just ago, I don't mind if people would do that. Since I'm good at porting a models and modeling. I'd say that I'm not allowing to giving BETA models for people, said my friend (He's ripped a models). We don't like a stuff like that being on public while they aren't perfectly.
I knooow this is a Sonic Thread but I stupidly made that promise a month ago and now I can't afford to run away. ... Today is Freedom Planet's 1st anniversary! Since the game have some "inspirational" ties with Sonic --- Here, have some stuff. Since the game have some "inspirational" ties with Sonic --- Here, have some stuff.
I don't have too much more to say other than very well done! You've done quite a good job at translating her into 3d and the modelling and features all look nice, especially for your alleged experience. Keep polishing this and good luck on the other two, it's great seeing things like this! (Progress posts are nice too with decent progress, since I assume it'll take a bit before we see more otherwise) As for derailing the thread, me myself would love more activity in here even though it's not directly sonic, a lot of sonic fans like freedom planet from what I've seen. Kinda want this as a sonic generations mod now.. Also if you ever need help with this or other stuff relating to source or max feel free to add me, just saying. Seems I had a bit to say..
Carol's looking great so far! Can't wait (actually, I'll wait patiently) to see the rest!
Awesome work, man! Can't wait to see how the other two girls look.

Is anyone alive here? If so, i was wondering if it's possible to get models from sonic runners?
Is anyone alive here? If so, i was wondering if it's possible to get models from sonic runners?
Possible. Sonic Runners uses Unity Engine so far. Everyone thought its a sprites, its not.
If there is any of you looking for a stuff to do: darkhedgehog23 posted models of a few Archie characters
If there is any of you looking for a stuff to do: darkhedgehog23 posted models of a few Archie characters
Looks like a lot of job to do since he claims that the models are not UVmapped nor rigged. Currently I'm just looking forward to anyone porting props from any Sonic game really. [Besides, good to see this thread back here, it has been awfully quiet...]
Greetings. I was reading through the thread in the hopes of finding weapon models from the Shadow the Hedgehog game but had little luck. I was wondering if there was already a release in one of the prior threads (I've only been able to find one of them), or if there are no such models.
Possible. Sonic Runners uses Unity Engine so far. Everyone thought its a sprites, its not.
Yay life! I'm glad it's possible cause id really like to see tikal, and some of the buddies like chaos and shara ported.

Well this topic's been dead for a few months Time to inject new life into it :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/4jYYDnM.png[/t] I decided I wanted a better Elise model in Source engine so I imported her cutscene model and improved a few things. (like making the teeth actual models instead of mostly a flat plane.)
