I'll also need someone who is good at skinning, because im going to be honest and say that im terrible at reskinning.
I'm your dude.
Im planning on adding Helmets with different bodygroups, a beret and an optional balaclava mask bodygroup. But i need suggestions on what kind of helmet model i could use to have it better fit in with the rest of the hack. I'll also need someone who is good at skinning, because im going to be honest and say that im terrible at reskinning.
PASGT Helmet and if you need another skinner send me a pm, i'm not that good but if you need people i'm in
I think you should shrink the vest vertically just a little. It looks long on him.
I dunno about balaclavas. I know that since they're recycling materials they would probably use them, but they just don't look to me as if those would match the uniform they wear. Maybe if you added some patches in the uniform and maybe some baggy coats or something it might work.
Function over fashion. City 17 is meant to be in Eastern Europe, I'd imagine it'd get quite cold over there. Speaking of which, gloves would be good. Can't have your fingers going numb on nightly patrols.
Hey dudes. Any suggestions for gear?
I'd suggest adding the webbing harness from the vietnam guys or the national guard models MeLuckyCharms was using originally, the conscripts in the beta didn't have any webbing but it makes sense to add some, otherwise they'll have nowhere to carry ammunition or anything. I'll take a look and see if i can find some decent ALICE pouches anywhere, i think the pouches on the vietnam guys is a bit outdated. I'll also see if i can find a decent PASGT helmet.

Add bones as well. Also, will we be able to use these in mods we code? I was thinking about using these for a mod I've made but not touched yet with the code.
I would be thankfull and glad if any of you could find some stuff you think might be fit and decent for the Conscripts. A minor update, i removed the belt on the flak jacket ( im going to make the belt a bodygroup option ) and i've tinkered with the mesh of the flak jacket to fit better. Going to try and shorten it a bit vertically soon.
Just an idea, but since HL2 is in eastern europe maybe throw in some russian equipment as bodyroups, too. For example, maybe add the helmet and even possibly the flak vest from these guys? Helmets would likely be around in abundance, so makes sense to re-use them. http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=120333

Also, these are meant for posing and i don't really care if these work for mods or not. [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] UPDATE. I got the test version compiled, with bodygroups!
It looks fantastic!
You should also add BMS heads. Just a suggestion
you forgot to erase the belt AO shadow...
The Conscripts didn't wear Flak Jackets, they wore PASGT vests (along with a PASGT helmet according to one of the textures.)
Hello ladies This seriously needs to have the UVs reworked and toned down much more. So I had a go at the Vietnam model. Not bad. But like I said. Females needed here. And I spotted a cave in the polys that need to be fixed. No major update right now guys.
You should also add BMS heads. Just a suggestion.
I don't have any plans on adding the BMS heads to the hack, im going to stick with citizen heads only, to better fit in with Half-Life 2.
You forgot to erase the belt AO shadow...
The skin has been updated since that preview.
The Conscripts didn't wear Flak Jackets, they wore PASGT vests (along with a PASGT helmet according to one of the textures.)
Good to know, im not as well-read as some of you when it comes to military equipment.
The Conscripts didn't wear Flak Jackets, they wore PASGT vests (along with a PASGT helmet according to one of the textures.)
The vest they're using right now is an M69 flak vest, vietnam era. It's as close to a PASGT vest model as you're likely to get, the only visual difference is the shoulders and pocket locations, which could easily be skinned on. M69: [img_thumb]http://www.vietnamgear.com/vgphotos/M69vest122zipclose.jpg[/img_thumb] PASGT vest (without cover): [img_thumb]http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/military_photos/equipment-field-gear/348605d1337513730t-us-pasgt-vest-od-108.jpg[/img_thumb]
IIRC HUNK from Resident Evil uses a PAGST vest, if you really wanted a real one instead of a reskinned M69 you could get it from his Operation Raccoon City model.

Yeah, but the webbing is likely fused to the vest so removing it would need a lot of work.

Make sure you shrink it, though. It's a decent model, it just looks really bulky and out of place on the vietnam bodies. I tried a combination of the vietnam soldiers + that vest a while ago, couldn't get it looking good.
Im tinkering with it as of right now, and im trying my best to shrink it and make it look decent, rather than blocky and bulky.
So i'm not just offering advice and telling people how stuff should be done, how about i start hacking together some headgear? I can go look for a good PASGT helmet and some goggles or something.

[editline]14th October 2012[/editline] Some more progress, this time with the PASGT vest from Missing Information. Thoughts?
Can you post a side view?
Can you post a side view?
You may want to fix the smoothing, but apart from that it looks great.
Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to give them some old cold war Russian helmets instead of PASGT's, since HL2's scenery is Eastern-Europe like?
Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to give them some old cold war Russian helmets instead of PASGT's, since HL2's scenery is Eastern-Europe like?
Everyone except Grigori has an American accent, so it's likely that the Combine would have broken up and shifted around Earth's armies much like they moved around everyone else. I guess a mixture of PASGT and Russian helmets would work best, but that might be a bit annoying to do.
