ah bare in mind the HUGE wads of grass in the corners, there just so i can compile it properly. I am progressing on the 1st corner. as for the phx glass all what it was to show the reflections and stuffs :p any how the map is still in progress so you cant judge something completly if its not 100% done. kthnxbai

Something you need to get used to around here is criticism. You show us anything, even just a crappy in-hammer shot, and we'll nit-pick every tiny little detail, it's the only way you're going to learn anything and improve upon what you've got so far.

[/QUOTE] Well maybe you didn't look at my post, since no one commented on that- and you certainly seemed to ignore the perfectly polite, logical and constructive suggestions.
Tip about your displacements, they're looking a bit jagged, make them slightly higher and then give them the once over with 'Smooth' checked.
mind muncher i took your post into considderation, Sorry for not thanking you I did indeed place the rim around the spawn 8D apologies again. Neo thanks for your input I will see into that once I find the source of the fps lags. Any idea?[/QUOTE] Hehe, no, I don't mean I need apologies or thanks or anything, you just seemed to be complaining about no suggestions. Granted most people weren't suggesting everything, but if you lurk around the mapping section this is how most maps work if they aren't amazing right away. Also, you may want some ramps leading out of that water so we don't need to noclip to escape it's steep sides.
fixed! using power of 4 caused problems so i lowerd to 3 :D more pictures soon! Yea I noticed the sides where a tad steep im trying to sort it out You can get out if u sprint out of the water ;p any how now my map is fixed I need to reapply hdr

The map may still be in progress, but if you are showing images then you must expect criticism. It's like car company releasing a prototype then going into a huff when people say they don't like the shape.
Ok then fair enough :p Any way I have new images Its all been fixed part 1 is done (hilly grass area) Cubemaps and hdr lighting :) This is my first map where I botherd to 1 do displacements 2 hdr lighting + cubemaps i shall continue and hopefully finish this :p current mapsize is 33mb for full mapsize. ok, cheers. One of the corners .. *wait for it* will have snow. As this is a multi terrain I would like to involve different type of textures but I am not sure how I can introduce the snow unless I make a small wall around one of the corners then apply the snow + displacement.
HDR looks surprisingly nice.
Cheers I never used hdr nor displacements before so this is my first properly made map :p Oh also I need a way to blend grass into snow or a nice way to section one of the corners for the snow one as I have no idea how I would do it. Any idea appreaciated, even if its drawn up in paint. I would try custom textures but Im afraid I dont know how to do that :v
Okay- that rim looks nice, but as I said earlier; you need to make the glass thinner. The rim and platform should stick out around the glass... Like the glass should look sunken in as part of the platform. Also, try and add some buildings to the map or I'm not interested by the terrain. Don't add buildings to the snow area- but do add snow percipitation.
the thing about the snow thing is that I need an idea on how to build the area. I have no snow > grass blend textures which would be good or I could make some ugly sorrounding for it :/ Iv done the rim I didnt get what you ment at first but iv sorted it out :)
You could import the Tf2 one.
Ah ok and how would I do that >.< I have no ide on how to Import textures or even premade custom ones :(
If you're using Ep2 you can find some pretty decent non-blend snow textures. You could make your own, as the only thing people need to see it is ep2, and not your vmt.
33mb is way too large for a simple construction map like this. Raise your lightmap scales.
its not simple, its max map size with about 6 cube maps and hdr :p its got quite a few displacements and there will be more. :3

You have large open terrain that probably has a lightmap scale of 16. Raise that to something like 128 and you will be looking at a much smaller filesize. You need to go through and optimise it in every aspect.
any one know how to use tf2 textures in the hl2 ep2 engine, I need the grass > snow blend :(
TF2 textures look shit when combined with HL2 textures. Just make a custom blend texture.

Just copy the vmt from another one and just rename it and change the two textures it uses.
