Can't somebody answer my question? :( I really need this waterfall particle!
It's called Waterfall_Cascade_01. If you are looking for it in the particle editor and can't find it you might have to extract it from the episode two content .gcf.
On a side note, can someone write up on how to properly use an info_particle_system in a map. For some reason I can't get mine to work and it's not a very well documented subject.
-Make an entity "info_particle_system".
-In that entity put the name of your particle name into "Particle System Name" field ( not the name of .pcf file).
-Change the "Start Active" keyvalue to "Yes". Compile.
Also, do not forget to put your .pcf file name to "particle_manifest.txt" - (username\_Mod_Name_\mod_name\particles\particle_manifest.txt).
You can find "particle_manifest.txt" in the HL2\Portal\TF2 .GCF (depends on what mod you are using to create the particle), inside the "particles/" folder.
All .pcf's must be in the particles_manifest.txt in the particles folder to be used by the game. Other than this, all particle systems are always accessed by the system name, never the .pcf name
:)
Updated.
I don't know why... but this thread has made me want to play Gmod again.

Knew I was doing something wrong ;)
Does anyone have tried particles on models?
Edited:

PS.Gonna try it tomorow, now i'm going to bed...GN!:P
Has anyone tried making a thick smog effect like in RTB Concept art? Using the particle tool ages ago I made a sloppy lookalike. If you used don't collide with world brushes and did a fancy particle, you could get the fog pretty good. Especially with some swirling bits going on.
Rain would be great, too. One that collides with the world instead of going through it.

It would work, but for single player. That fog requiers too many particles i guess. Would be laggy.
Guys, do I still have access to the particle tool if I only own Portal?
And if so how do I get it?

You should.
Go to the steam game list, go to portal, right click, go to Properties and then set launch options, put -tools
How can you do this what program do I need?
And if you made a effect, can you just use it instantly when you saved it or you need to convert it with special stuff?

You need an Orange Box game for this. Just right click on the game in steam and press Set launch options. Then add -tools to the end of the launch options.
You don't need to convert the particles into another format to use but you do need to add the pcf file to the particles manifest of that game.
In other news here's a supergate kawoosh I made a few days ago. (It's pretty rubbish)

That is awesome! Send it to aVoN!
What part of "rotation random" do you people not understand? It makes the effects look a little less repetitive.
What part of "rotation random" do you people not understand?
The bit where it made little or no difference to the repetitiveness of the effect. I appreciate the suggestion, but the tone that your post implied I do not appreciate.
Anyways there is not really much point sending it to aVoN or trying to incorporate it with the gates. Something like a kawoosh will always be more easily made with lua.
Does anyone know how you can parent the object to the point? It's hard to explain, I'm using the blood spurt and at the moment you can shoot the combine but if he moves the blood keeps spraying for about 1 second in the same spot. How do I make it so it moves with the combine?
Merry Christmas =D.
That's what I used to make it. It's made using a fairly high gravity pulling up, the twist around axis, and alpha fade/decay. The tornado is made up of three different part. The base, the outer shell, and the inner. I used the smokegrenade1.vtf and just messed around with the twist speed, color, and alpha. About the curves in the tornado, I wanted to make something that looks similar to this:

That's gonna be hard to make!
Include that rainbow too for the lols.
I can't figure out how to make particles. Like I don't know how to make anything show up visually. Anyone got links to tutorials? I have been searching with no avail.
Just posted one above...

First two particles I made, so go away. Probably mess around some more, just started using the particle editor today.
Excuse me while I abduct you.
How did you do that?
It is really easy.
In Constraints Category add "Collide with static part of world"
(Can't remember exact name)
I tried that ,too.
Like a few weeks ago,it turned out pretty good, since it was able to fill up Buckets and pools.
Umm... I have tried fiddling around with every available option, and I have yet to see a result. Some one should put up a tutorial telling how to actualy make particles and get them to do something, and all these questions will end.
Made some lag-free rain for my upcoming map, i think it looks awesome:

I know that I'm repeating my self, but, has anyone tried attach the particles on models?

i think it is in the valve wiki
After years of hard work (well, not really :v:), I present you... VOLUMETRIC PARTICLE EARTH!

This looks awesome, but if you see it moving it's even more awesome! :excited:
Download PCF file
Place this file somewhere on your PC and open it with the particle editor.
