there needs to be something changed around facepunch, The stickies need to be in Cherry Red
agree x9001
Well, of course you want to remain the main section for "help" threads, because you're one those who've made those kind of threads.
I also want it to remain this way, also Terrenteller doesn't make the rules, Hezzy/Garry does. And since you love the rules so much you may note this whole thread is covered under rule 1. Not a democracy.
I am angry with this mis-representation of my views. I can post my support/lack of it of my own free will thanks. The section is fine as it is. Terrenteller does his job fine. You also forget rule 1, this isn't a democracy and damned if Garry will listen to your petition. Terrenteller has discussed a restructure before, but the idea was turned down by Hezzy + Garry. You are wasting your time.
I am sorry about my miss-interpretation of what you said, completely my fault. The thing about the sub-forum people usually see those then a lightly shaded yellow sticky on the top of the page, now I am not saying that WE NEED A NEW SUB-FORUM just something that can fix this problem of all these idiotic threads that are spread about, the one that really need common sense, The cherry colored sticky idea I actually liked alot, it stands out on the front page and people look at it maybe a bit more then they do now because it stands out a little more. I am not saying change the entire forum, metallics I am just suggesting an idea that could maybe get rid of some of the useless help threads that have been popping up in the mapping section, that if you use common sense you could figure them out
problem of all these idiotic threads
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=806779 http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=808630
Sorry to inform you th3_l33t, but you realize that Google can't answer everything? I put in google once upon a time "How can I make cars follow a path and loop repeatedly in hammer?", no results. So in a way Google is shouting "Fuck you and your shit." at everyone in today, so we can't really use it all the time.
All the 'nooby questions' threads and questions are usually about one topic, but are always different. I mean there are hundreds of threads about lighting, but they all have different questions and different circumstances than the next. The only nooby questions threads that should be ranted about, are the ones that people don't search for. Everyone can tell those threads apart, and they're all dealt with accordingly. Also threads like this don't do anything to unclutter the front page ¬_¬ The sweet irony of the whole situation just bit me on the arse. If you used a little "common sense" and "searching" you would look at a thread title, note it was a help thread, and move on. Just like everyone else does.
I enjoy these threads. Sometimes even I learn something.
All the 'nooby questions' threads and questions are usually about one topic, but are always different. Those idiot people who don't use common sense to answer their own question, I am not talking about every single help thread, just the ones for the real idiots, I am also not saying that a sub-forum is the best option I just want something to help those idiots realize that there are those questions already out there, I want them to be SMART! and look for them or even go past the first page, use google or just plain common sense.

He could always appoint members to answer question threads and lock them?
He could always appoint members to answer question threads and lock them?
Even that is a solution, so people can't post in them anymore and then they fall into the abyss of pages.
Addition of a sub-forum is a re-arrangement of the forum Garry is unlikely to approve of, because as far as he is concerned the forum is full of idiots and that's how it is always going to be. If you used a little "common sense" and "searching" you would look at a thread title, note it was a help thread, and move on. Just like everyone else does.
I think Garry is correct about this forum is filled with complete idiots, but there are those people who actually know what they are doing and are smart about what they do. Also I am not asking for an entire rearrangement of the forum just something that can help fix all these "IDIOTIC" threads that really don't deserve an entire thread on the front page.
In the LUA forum, theres a noobie question section, and the noobs do generally restrain from posting outside of it. Just make a sub-forum in mapping called newbie questions and train a special branch of moderators to access whether or not questions people post count as "noobie questions". I support you 100% L33T
But there is a difference between Hammer newbies, and 12 year old noobs who make those threads because they're too lazy to use the search. It's almost trolling when they do it, but like I said there is a difference between the two. The Hammer newbies are trying to learn to map and over time get better and make some decent maps, and then there are the 12 year old's are trying to churn out a rp_csdesert on their first try because they think all they need is 3kliksphilip 'tutorials'.
They are stupid to you, but see me I try to fix the problem at hand.
And even if you think all these newbie threads are idiotic and stupid, as much as you're fed up with them, they're legitimate and innocent requests for help. They deserve the same equal attention, if not more, as any other thread in here.
And even if you think all these newbie threads are idiotic and stupid, as much as you're fed up with them, they're legitimate and innocent requests for help.
He could always appoint members to answer question threads and lock them?
Here becomes a problem. 1. What is a newbie question and what is not? There is a question currently residing on the front page relating to .spr texture creation and I don't know the answer to it, but is it still a noob question? Where would it be posted under this new regime? 2. What happens if the appointed users don't know the answer, as in the above point, if I was one of the appointed members and none of us knew, the question would have to go unanswered, despite the chance someone out there in the community knowing, but not being able to answer.

They deserve the same equal attention, if not more, as any other thread in here.
Agreed, and like I said, there is a line to draw when it comes to those questions. There are so many questions people can have about things like lighting, 3D skyboxes and such and even though those questions may seem a little stupid at first, each question could lead to questions off that, and ect. and could lead to something very complicated and they end up very successful mappers. Terenteller has got the right idea of making an encyclopedia, but it's possibly intimidating for new players to see a giant wall of links and text, even if it's amazingly organized. The stickied topic could do with a FAQ that directly answers the basic questions as well.

(the .spr one). I am not a noob, and no its a rather advanced question, considering I am taking a step past ceating normal textures.

I simply just don't support a sub-forum, or an "appointed question answerer", or any other ridiculous measures.
Thats my question! (the .spr one). I am not a noob, and no its a rather advanced question, considering I am taking a step past ceating normal textures.
Well there you are then, your question may well not get answered if we changed things (it may not as it is anyway, I'd wait for Terrenteller to hit the scene)

That I don't like seeing on the front page where they should be easily learned using google/common sense/ or the encyclopedia.
Well there you are then, your question may well not get answered if we changed things (it may not as it is anyway, I'd wait for Terrenteller to hit the scene)
Yeah, that is what I am hoping for, or anyone who has done anything of the type. EDIT:
I don't agree with the appointed question answerer either, but I just want the more stupid threads to not be made at all, don't mind the legit question like the one metallics is talking about I don't mind those ones, it is just those idiotic ones that are 4 words long and require 2 minutes of thinking.
I agree with this (not only because that question is mine). I searched the valve wiki before I asked, and hell I even tried it myself. I think I should have to search vtf more.

Never search in a sentence you just use keywords. Or you can check mapping sites like Interlopers, HalfWit-2 or the Valve Developer Wiki. --- I agree that like the Lua section there should just be a Newbie question subforum. Most threads get replied to and most new people post their questions there.
God damn, you are so over reacting and getting too pissed off over this, ignore the fucking threads or help the people in them.
God damn, you are so over reacting and getting too pissed off over this, ignore the fucking threads or help the people in them.
Even though you're trolling, I agree.
God damn, you are so over reacting and getting too pissed off over this, ignore the fucking threads or help the people in them.
I have been doing that still, but why just sit there and help while it most likely gets worse and worse then actually try and help it so we don't see as many of those kind of threads around.
