i actually did look through this guy's post history just to check his mapping history. all i saw were a bunch of ego-driven posts on people's maps. i was just saying - maybe he should post one since he's so good.
and i do realize this map is simple. that's the point. but im fairly new. i don't like seeing people trash on other people's maps (believe me, im not talking about my thread), but at the same time not seeing any of their work.

oh beloved high lord framperton, will you let me see some of your maps?

Why are you being so critical of what he said? You should be thanking him for taking the time to tell you how to make your map better.

He really doesn't seem ego-driven or arrogant in his post regarding your map. It's actually some pretty useful constructive criticism...
I like your video by the way! Made me laugh. :D
^ to the two above me. not being critical exactly. it was good criticism. but i don't see how he has anything to go by. he hasn't posted anything except for comments on people's stuff. half of them have a pretty nasty attitude.
Yeah, I see where you're going. But like Beanz said, it's similar to how you don't need to be a chef to know if something tastes funny, or you don't need to be a football coach to notice a bad play. I don't know about his attitude elsewhere, but here it seems acceptable. There are always things to improve upon no matter what, which is why quite a few of the more popular maps are still labeled as beta, even though they look great.
What did you use to smoothly film your video by the way? It looked really nice! Also, where did you get the oven and fridge models? I've been looking for some kitchen props...

as for the kitchen models - i found them in my css directory. dunno where they came from.

please, constructive criticism only; this took a lot of work, so please respect me, and ill respect you. if i get positive reviews/comments, ill put it on toybox, and possibly garrysmod.org

I'm honestly not sure why you're getting so defensive over what I said, I took the time to look over what you posted, rewatched the vid several times to make sure I had something worthwhile to say. I didn't have to do that. I could have just given you a vague answer like 'looks good' but that was already said a few times.
As for my tone, yeah I tend to be very critical. Some may not like that, but its the exact same thing I do for myself when I make up a level plan or start working on something. And it works, for me at least.
In terms of MY own maps, I have quite a few down with pencil and paper, but I haven't had time to bang any out this yeah because I'm nearing the end of my school year and learning how to model at the same time. I want to be able to sit down and do them right, not work on them here and there for an hour or so, forgetting something or losing interest in a project.
Also, this isn't some sort of exclusive club where you can only say anything if you posted work before. Just because I don't have any work uploaded doesn't mean I don't have anything to offer. As I for one constantly look at these forums ( a little less frequently as of late) and glean as much as I can from what is said and what people make. I also pay very close attention to the environments in the games I play and have been doing so for about half my life.
I think I did have something up from a VERY VERY long time ago called dm_cityoflights or something like that. Not sure if it exists anywhere now because it was a small dev textured map to help me get the hang of proper scaling and a night lighting pallet.
So you can either take my word that I have a good handle on what I'm doing and use the advice I posted, or get hung up on the fact that I don't have anything other than that up currently.
Not saying I know everything, but I like to think I've got a good grasp on level design principles and aesthetics.
