Displacements
use them
Ah Hell yes, I live in las Vegas and have always wondered what L4D would be like in Vegas.
Good luck, I support this.

The Highway map intends to use many mountain displacements. Remember, large work-in-progress. This is not due until November.
OP Updated.
Everything is very perfect. You are in a city where there has been a major virus outbreak, things will have been moved around in a hurry.
WOH WOH WOH!
You're using a part from my western map! Just remember to credit me man.
Also, I like this because I hoped someone would use it.

It's not final. Most of that map is placeholder, but yes I will credit you if I use it.

Hmm, I'll take that into consideration. I'll add some detail props and dirty up the environment. I'll also throw in some decals and what not.

New Trailer.
Looks like you spent more time on the trailers than the map itself - you should be atleast halfway done with the project before you release any media (yours even is just stuff that comes out when you google las vegas and dead rising 2 thrown together).
This really doesn't seem thread-worthy.
This is a bit of a nit pick but you should probably change the " Veterans Memorial Bridge " sign. I doubt there's any veterans memorial bridges out in Las Vegas :v:

Well, players will not be able to see that sign as I will be placing a clip brush that prevents them from going back there because the car models are low-poly and detail is rather horrendous over at that end right now. But I will be creating several new highway signs.
Doesn't seem thread-worthy tbh
Doesn't seem thread-worthy tbh
Well, it's an early work in progress. but yeah, I see where you're going, not enough content to justify one yet.
looks tight, looking forward to it
Looks lovely so far. This has alot of potential as far as I can tell
Looks lovely so far. This has alot of potential as far as I can tell
All it is is some flat terrain, a bunch of cars and a couple buildings. How does it look like it has potential if he hasn't really shown anything worthwhile.
It would be like me making a singular building on a flat piece of grass and saying that it's the first of a hundred in some sort of booming metropolis. Doesn't show any sort of potential because the concept hasn't even been even remotely instantiated yet.

Bit empty at the moment, just trying to capture an old 50ish gas station.

Weird shadow errors on this one, some say the land looks a bit lush and hoping to get some more desert resources soon to capture the Mojave Essence.
Nice work. Keep me updated here.
The gas station looks sorta generic. When I look at those pictures I think "Gas station." Not "50's gas station". It would have been anything from the 50's until now. Really it's just four columns and a flat roof.
You should experiment with some interesting architecture. Geometric shapes, sharp lines and odd angles. Get away from just using squares.
Try searching google images for 50's and 60's stuff. The more interesting and complex the shapes the better it would look.
Try something like this

(This one may be a little over-exagerated, but you get the point)

Don't be afraid to try new things, try triangle roofs like those, or maybe something more curved?
Also, gas station pumps are usually facing the other way, so it's easier to drive in and fill up. The way you have them now would be awkward for someone driving in.
Why does it look like he's just taking prefabs from L4D2 and someone elses map.
Why does it look like he's just taking prefabs from L4D2 and someone elses map.
because so far he is. just like that idiot on moddb who brought all the hl2 dm maps into L4d and called it his own.
Ah, glad i'm not the only one that noticed then.
So far none of the map is yours besides the ugly flat highway. You took Dippeggs's western map, and you took buildings and parts of the levels from various maps in L4D2. It seems like you're just trying to get attention to be honest. This isn't thread worthy and by stealing other content like this you're not gaining any fame, and I seriously doubt Hiyougami would have anything to do with this project.
This is Hiyougami's work:

I quite like that design, yeah there is an auto shop near by the gas station, perhaps it would be better to combine those two like the one in the first picture. Only thing I dislike about the second one is the roof does seem quite exaggerated.

I don't think the roof should be -that- big, but you get the idea. It would actually be quiet simple to make that look a ton better than a square, flat roof.
[editline]10th April 2011[/editline]
I whipped this up more so just to see how it would be. It didn't take all that long, maybe an hour at most. There still needs to be final details but I think this style would be better, yes?

Yeah that style would add a unique feel to it and fix the genericness of it. I could also mess with the roof style some more so I can get that old futuristic style, don't have a reference pic for the one I am thinking of but I shall see what I can do.
There's a couple is really cool gas station designs, like arches or suspended roofs
Google image 'modernist gas station' for some cool ones
I think this one is cool. Might be hard to do though

That roof is a tad too small and pointless, it's not even covering the pumps. :|
