I can recall two similar instances.
-Crysis, in multiplayer where you must make it into the opponent base while there are large, fast turrets. It was always fun sneaking past those. If you drive into the base for the first time and had no clue about these things it can scare the shit out of you.
-Borderlands, where any attempt to escape the level by sea lead to the warning, and soon death, by a tall turret.

actually, in some levels, different things happen
that happens in the first few levels
in the next few, if you go out of bounds, the radio woman will tell you your in enemy artillary range, and then arty guns will blow you to pieces, you WON'T survive.
in the last levels, if you go out of bounds, an airstrike is called in, and you get blown to smitherines
