i've put the content into every game folder at this point and it's not working. why cant valve just implement a simple way of incorporating resources from various games into one setting, this is retarded. sorry if i'm getting pissy but this is a stupid issue and its hard to beleive valve just ignored something this simple [editline]07:07PM[/editline] finished the second warehouse... now i guess i'll begin some displacements. Looks good, sounds like too big of a project though.
it's actually not that bad, the map itself will be 75% displacements and 25% buildings. Most of the work goes into the buildings. I'll probably run into some optimization issues as well. But we'll see.
It's not stupid that valve didn't incorporate a feature that allows hammer to mount several games. Hammer is meant and designed for them. They don't need content from other games, but on the rare occasion that they do, they just copy it over.
that doesnt mean it is the proper way to do it. it would literally be the easiest thing to do, all they needed to do was add an additional column under the FGD list that let you pick which folder(s) to load materials/models from. copying materials/models that already exist into another directory is hacky, tedious and wastes space. i don't have many gripes with hammer, but this is one of them.
Sooooooooooo... How're the displacements coming along?
sorry if i'm getting pissy but this is a stupid issue and its hard to beleive valve just ignored something this simple
Hammer's a pain in the ass about stupid ass things, just learn to live with it. Good work on the script, and I hope you get around to finishing this map, by the way.
well i'm kind of stuck on this train station now. i need some reference pictures so i can know how to design the interior. i updated the vmf in my dropbox if anyone wants to see.

To speed things up, you could use a heightmap to give it a realistic flare. I remember a map for UT2004 that looked like it used a heightmap. It was pretty epic.
Look up some train station pictures on the internet maybe you can get some ideas
Maybe pm each other, instead of spam the thread with a chat?
uh that's kind of the point of this thread... so why not post here?
