Do you guys know how to make a talking sphere yet? I have no idea and google is useless.
Not sure myself but I'll just take a guess as to what you might need - logic_choreographed_scenes and scene_list_manager for the voice lines perhaps ( if you're doing something like Wheatley ) and then he would possibly be an NPC I imagine. Trigger the scenes with logic relays and trigger brushes.
Hopefully someone can give you more information but this might just be a poke in the right direction.

I hate Instances... because they seem like more hassle then they are worth; but then again I don't understand them to clearly... also Mapping for Portal 2 seems unclean in the way that they have maps surrounded by a big black box!.

If you're trying to do a scene with Wheatley then your best bet may be to decompile one of the maps where he spends a lot of time on a rail and talking to you.

I love the linked portal entity. It's great for when you want to make a hallway that happens to go through a large prop (example: the enrichment spheres).
How do I place a laser redirection cube in my map? I cant figure it out. Its probably obvious, I just cant see it.

prop_weighted_cube with cube type set to reflector and skin type or something set to new
