should I make it night, or daytime? I was thinking of being able to see the village lights from the cliff.
Both.
update: almost done with the visitors' center! [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/tJIaL.jpg[/img_thumb]
looks like a floor texture on that building.
looks like a floor texture on that building.
That's because it is bro. It's one oskutin made.
some mighty strange vertical floor...
some mighty strange vertical floor...
Just cos' I'm different! :v:
some mighty strange vertical floor...
joke's old. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/aRKZs.jpg[/img_thumb]
joke's old. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/aRKZs.jpg[/img_thumb]
i think you made it worse. it would have been good with the other texture if the surface wasnt so flat. im guessing its already got bump, but on that building you could even use displacements to get uneven surface. [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] a more fitting style imo would be to make it a log cabin.
There's a great texture in CS:S. I used it on my wall here: [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526787/Art/Level%20Editing/Waterfront/V2/Garden_Garage.jpg[/img_thumb]
That's not even that nice Rusty.
I thought it looked better for a wall than the one he was using.
You could take the trainstation and factory from winter jorpakko?
The ambient is too dark imo.
You could take the trainstation and factory from winter jorpakko?
yes! i'm going to be using my own modifications to it, but it will still largely be the same. [editline]15th May 2011[/editline]
The ambient is too dark imo.
i am going to turn it up. thanks, firegod :)
Whoa no I was talking to rusty. You're map looks great.
Whoa no I was talking to rusty. You're map looks great.
Oh yeah, I'm so sick of that lighting now, I just haven't gotten around to changing it. On topic: It's still looking nice. That's probably down to the fact that snow in games looks amazing when done well. And this is done well.
lol, that was my bad. i turned it back down. i finished a second building. in memory of my aspen financial center, i made an aspen financial regional office. they specialize in ski accidents. exterior: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/r9azY.jpg[/img_thumb] interior: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/g4JAx.jpg[/img_thumb] I would use inset lights, but EP2 doesnt have such a thing.
i dont know what it is really, but something is making the buildings look a bit dull. i mean the snow landscape and the trees look great, but there's some dullness to the buildings and the lighting that brings it down some :/ i think it can have something to do with this. when i hear/read the name radiance valley and the "population 349" i think of a small log cabin village or something like that. im not saying you shouldnt have a financial regional office, but i think it could look cool if you kept the bottom floor with the stone texture, but gave the two floors over that one some log texture, or just general wood. theres something that just screams sterile and dull about the all grey building youve got right now. i dont know, it doesnt look bad, it just doesnt fit the style that imo the map would benefit of having. theres also something about that dull lighting that kind of adds on to the dullness. now i know that its actually really realistic the way you have it set up now, because on a winters day like the skybox has, you dont generally get a lot of contrast and shadows and colour. but i think you could make the map pop with some blue sky skybox, beautiful lighting and colours. i understand if you havent really spent any time on the skybox and lighting and stuff because its kind of easy to do in the end of a map when youre tying everything up and all, but im just spewing thoughts here. this is just advice, if its bad advice then ignore it.
I have seen even smaller places with proper buildings. [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] And population of the whole Radiance Valley municipality might be over 2,000 inhabitants and that place is the central village of the municipality.
oh and i think a simple thing like putting snow on the roofs will make a big difference.
That might fit :v:

hah kind of ironic with this (its Aspen) but perhaps something like this could work? it could help to give the map originality and a nice style.
so kinda like this, beanz? [img_thumb]http://i53.tinypic.com/2wmmdja.png[/img_thumb]
so kinda like this, beanz? [img_thumb]http://i53.tinypic.com/2wmmdja.png[/img_thumb]
yeah, that gives it a nice sort of bright/dark contrast with the white snow and the dark stone. it looks good. i just noticed that youve got a misaligned texture on the side of the roof there too. absolutely nothing to get stuck on at this stage of the map, but i just wanted to tell you if you hadnt noticed. oh and perhaps you could add a nice cozy fireplace in there with a chimney to give the roof just a bit more detail? snow on roofs always makes snow maps look way better. its kind of a simple thing to add, yet many people forget to do it.

How large is the sky in the map?
How large is the sky in the map?
you mean the 3d skybox? or the map itself?
you mean the 3d skybox? or the map itself?
The map itself.
The map itself.
the ground space is about 1/3 the size of the hammer grid.
