• Make big maps compile faster and better (h4x!)

I'm sure chris knows how to optimize.
I'm sure santa knows how to jump downs chimneys.
The vertex/plane limits are the ones most likely to not be changeable by the compilers. If you have to have too many vertices, a better solution would be to optimize your map.
I can optimise the hell out of my stuff but it doesn't change the fact that it places a limit on the detail of my maps.
19 minutes? it took me 39 seconds to compile a map the size of the whole grid without lighting. Edit: without h4x
19 minutes? it took me 39 seconds to compile a map the size of the whole grid without lighting. Edit: without h4x
What did you run vvis on?
everything normal Edit: I'm not sure about the 39 seconds it was a while ago. It could be 19 seconds too or 17.
Someone compile a big map, say a css map. Do militia.
19 minutes? it took me 39 seconds to compile a map the size of the whole grid without lighting. Edit: without h4x
My PC wasn't exectly dedicated to the task. I had media player and a few other things running. Plus, as I said earlier, it's a P4 CPU.
same p4 processor
same p4 processor
1GB memory?
19 minutes? it took me 39 seconds to compile a map the size of the whole grid without lighting. Edit: without h4x
Yeah right. I can't do more than one third of the total size without going for about an hour and then locking up, and that's with 1gb of ram. I find your claim hard to believe. Try it again and post a compile log.
Hey, compile times also matter with how much RAM people have and what processors. So, InspiratoR has probably a super-computer, or that is hoax.
It's a .rar file. I can't open it. I seriously need it! My map takes over a day to compile and keeps crashing!
It's a .rar file. I can't open it. I seriously need it! My map takes over a day to compile and keeps crashing!
Get WinRAR?
Get WinRAR?
Sorry... forgot. I keep trying to picture the fourth dimension... P.S. What is the point of making a .rar file anyway?
Sorry... forgot. I keep trying to picture the fourth dimension... P.S. What is the point of making a .rar file anyway?
Compression.
Sorry... forgot. I keep trying to picture the fourth dimension... P.S. What is the point of making a .rar file anyway?
The same reason for making it a .zip, to make it smaller :3:
Sorry... forgot. I keep trying to picture the fourth dimension... P.S. What is the point of making a .rar file anyway?
Makes the file smaller to download. ^What he said. If you really want it, i'll make it a .zip.

Top one, if you're running windows anyway.
This is from a download page... Which do I want?
7zip is better.
I got it. I tried compiling. I honestly didn't notice any difference in speed other than that my computer has started spontaneously shutting down...
Sorry, I forgot about that. I've now edited the link so that you have to scroll past the site bulletins to get to the download.
Does it work without my version? Post the compile log. My hack just changes a number in the program. It should be the same in all other respects.
Then why is it 24 Kb bigger? Edit:
I got it. I tried compiling.
Then why is it 24 Kb bigger?
Probably the icon.
Is that VMPI a working copy? If so then can you please hook me up with it?
I have VMPI and believe me, it is far more trouble than it's worth. You need an insecure SQL server for VMPI masters and slaves to use (which is very dangerous) and you need to configure tons files on the slave and the master which can take days to sort out. VMPI also doesn't function properly; you can only have one slave and all of the CPU load is placed on the slave instead of being distributed between the master and the slave. About the only thing it does help with is memory load splitting.
Is that VMPI a working copy? If so then can you please hook me up with it?
I have been working on restoring it from the 2003 beta leak. I have had the info posted on the WIP section of my website. As GiGaBiTe said, it is a pain to set up right now. Also, there are still some incompatibilities between the 2003 version and the newest compile tools. While we're on the subject, if anyone has a copy of the original Dark Messiah: Might and Magic closed multiplayer beta or knows someone that does, please contact me immediately. I heard private SDK tools were accidentally leaked in it, including part of VMPI.
I found this to be a complete waste of time, It cut about 4 minutes out and I found out why. It cut out most of the bits that make my skybox, so I ended up with the black with trail like things in it. For the sake of 4 minutes I would rather go watch TV for a bit longer :argh:

Also, by "the black," do you mean that the skybox is acting like nodraw? This is a very small change to BSP. It removes leaves, not brushes. If it's causing glitches, it probably just exposed a problem that was already in your map.
