Is it your house?
Well, I pretty much already have that look with what I've got now. So it should be easy.

What?

I think, rather than making a few brushes to make the shanty hut things, you should make a basic frame, then texture lots of long brushes and put them onto the frame, each one slightly rotated or too long or too short etc.
It will look great if done well.

I've pretty much completely restarted the map now. I'm making it look a lot more swamp-like (for example the water now slowly flows along its course)
The only problem I'm having is getting the L4D2 Swamp Fever models and materials working properly. If anyone could help me do this it would be a big help. It's only the materials that are applied to models that don't work; all the others work fine (the skybox is the one from Hard Rain).

Are those plants, uh, glowing? Well, anyway, I do have to say that it looks better now, and I hope you get it finished, but I can't help with the materials or props, sorry.
Those reeds don't light properly for whatever reason. :/
that's weird. I feel like I should say some smart ass thing about cubemaps but as far as I've heard they don't even affect props.
Well, the reeds technically aren't 3D props as they have no depth, so that's probably why.
thats, very, EXTREMELY, blocky lookin
that's weird. I feel like I should say some smart ass thing about cubemaps but as far as I've heard they don't even affect props.
Oh you silly willy, of course cubemaps affect props! Where else do you think they get their reflections from?
Anyway, are you sure you didn't accidently disable incoming lighting on the reeds? Other than that, try to change the lighting properties on the light_env or place an info_lighting over or on the side of the reeds, give the info_lighting a name and put it into the "lighting origins" field on the reeds. Though, I doubt that's it. It's worth a try, right?
Care to elaborate?
Poster before the last one
And I've already tried changing the lighting origin, it didn't work
Care to elaborate?
I think he means lack of detail, but I'm sure you're getting there... Right?
Well, once I've done a bit more I'll go in and add bits of detail here and there, but the shack in that image is more or less finished.

There's still a lot to do on the environment, it's a bit dull. And there's something wrong with the shack, I have no idea what though. Just feels like something's missing.
Are you compiling with HDR by the way? If so do you use expert compile for it?
Wow, looks awesome. Can't wait till' it's done.
Why is he getting ?

So I got the Swamp Fever models working (turns out I forgot to do the model fix) so I'm starting to add some trees and other props to make it more... swampy.
I also changed the lighting and started adding in the boardwalks.
The shack on the left is not finished yet.
I'm trying to decide whether I should just Pakrat everything I've used at the risk of warez, or only allow people with L4D2 and GCFscape to play it.
There's house frames in the l4d2 swamp models, you could use some of those to help you make some more interesting house shapes.
But so far looks good, definately needs more porch lights and flying insects though.
I thought "Oh sweet, 'swamp fever'. Maybe it's a quality swamp styled map with some neat focal points!"
Then I saw the op. :saddowns:
Keep trying.
The pics in the OP look nothing like the map does now.
Looking forward to this, if you add some more Swamp Fever models it'll be great.
I think its blocky and badly textured
I think its blocky and badly textured
I think you should elaborate on how the map should be improved instead of saying just that.

he said, BADLY TEXTURED and BLOCKY that means he needs to TEXTURE BETTER and MAKE IT LOOK LESS BLOCKY.

Just pakrat it. One; it's not like anyone is going to actually report you and two, most people don't know what those things are - Hell, most GModders don't understand how maps work.
No offence, but from what I've seen, the majority of GModders are absolutely fucking clueless.
Nice but the Houses/cabins are what ever there called don't look nice or right and the surrounding of the map looks odd.
Odd in what way?
Odd in what way?
It looks repetitive and needs more different foliage.
Developing pretty well since you showed me those early screens. To enhance the environment and feel, I'd add fog, make it darker (maybe just after twilight) and add flickering torches for lighting (as in tribal, not electric). Just my opinion though. ^^
