Yes, please. I'm not worried if it's incomplete I just wanna see it. :D
:D Well I'll start work now and upload it before tomorrow.
Edit:
No release until the compile error is fixed. I do not want to rebuild what I made tonight again :(
So yeah, at the moment the map is fucked. So much work and I can't even finish it T-T
I'm might be releasing the beta tonight if the compile I'm doing now works fine. I said fuck it and deleted the building and just made a simple new one. I like the other one though =/

So you redid the map?
Or did you just delete the part you made
when the problem started occuring?

I remade the building in the underground hanger. Everything else in the map is untouched.
Edit:
The beta is up.

You, Kind sir, are made of win. I've been waiting for a map like this to happen along the forums.

Thank you :) I just ran through it and noticed many things wrong. The 2 stair ways on the first base, the lights are not there. A lot of bad texture work and they don't line up properly. And a lot of other things such as spots missing cubemap reflections. But it's not the final version, So they will be fixed if the map lets me finish it.
AI noded?
AI noded?
Nope =/
Puh-leese, add ai nodes? :D
Actually in all seriousness though, it looks really cool, an excellent map to build in. But needs more skybox & AI node. :P

Thank you. I do plan on adding AI nodes into the map. I will try a 3D skybox, only problem is I've never made one so it will be a while before I add that into the map. I am a slacker =/
Downloaded from the .org
reminds me of a Half Life 1 map..
fuckin awesome man i am so downloading this
1. Are you using Ep2 Engine or HL2?
2. Where do you learn your things from? Where are your tutorials from? I need some good displacement tutorials for mountains etc :)
3. Awesome job.
4. I too am working on my first map.
5. How do you make a road? Sorry if this sounds silly, but seeing as you're a new mapper and I'm a new mapper it might be a bit easier asking you rather than an experienced mapper.

If you look at the sticky in the main thead page is where I learned most of what I know. The engine is EP1, the old one.
Also learned a lot from

<3 his tuts.
For the road/bridge. It's just a flat brush with a road texture one it.
When I put a texture, it does the road across the road, not along it? I don't know what size my road should be? If I make it fit, it just stretches it.
Sigh :(

Well all you need to do is change the width till it fits. The length of it will just tile and look fine. But for turns, I wouldn't know. Just be creative I guess.
Thanks.
Great map for a first. Keep going!
That looks great! For a first map, astounding. So I'm guessing by the sand and cliffs it's in the desert, so why grass in the middle of the base?
Cause that is the happy zone! :v:
Thanks.
No problem, I can show you my little shit technique for making cliffs like the ones in my map if you want. It's simple really.

Yes please. My displacements are horrible.. I get stretched tectures and big points etc.
Yes please. My displacements are horrible.. I get stretched tectures and big points etc.
Well for the stretched part. Tone down the hight you raise them and try top make them smoother and the grid closer so it doesn't stretch. I'll post the 3 pics in a few mins.
Edit:
never mind, 8 pics and I'll explain them.
Sweet, good man.
As you can see my displacements are segmented so I can fit more detail into them. The bigger the displacement the less detail you get with the grid.

I've deleted a section and will remake it with the steps I use.

First I use the brush tool to make a good brush filling the gap.

I then select the top of the brush to turn into a displacement.

I make it.

I then start to lower the displacement with the raise/lower tool with Spatial Unchecked and select a paint size of 3 as you can see. Makes it smooth and easy to work with.

I fit the displacement to the section I'm working on and make details and try to make it look like real rock "not done in the picture".

I then click on the other cliff near it for the texture size/ texture stretch so it doesn't repeat a lot.

And that's the way I do them :D
Edit:
For a mountain there are many ways to do it. You can use a lot of segmented displacements like mine for a lot of detail, or just use one displacement (faster) but it will have less detail and be pointy and stuff cause of the larger grid. But that really depends on the size of the displacement.
Thanks dude. Kind of helped. I use to do mapping for CSS, but I had never used displacements. I think my main problem at the moment is just texturing. With enough time the displacement can become perfect.
Thanks again.
EDIT: Also, how are you going to make the road go with the landscape... How do you work the road into the displaced landscape?

You welcome.
Well I haven't yet started on making the road connect to the bridge. But for working it into the map, you can use a brush or a displacement for the base road, shape either one and just texture it. You can also use overlays for the road but it might have to be a flat surface for that.
Also with a lot of time, a crappy map can turn into and awesome one. It just depends on what your working on, how much work you put into it, and making it better with trial and error. As you can see for the OP pics, the maps has come a long way. Time and work will reward you.
Excellent, thanks.
This is a brilliant map. It has the perfect mixture of eye candy, features and build space. More maps should be made like this.
This. Is. Totally. Awesome. Especially for first map. You did a great work pal, and the base + bridge looks awesome. I cannot come up with any suggestions, because it is already awesome. Keep up the good work!
Dude this is sweet! It is way better than my crap map that is all glitch. Keep up the good work.
