I want to add vsh_flat but I'm not sure if the cubemaps are broken for everybody or just me. The author told me that other people have playtested it just fine, but I reinstalled my copy of TF2 and still got these weird error textured cubemaps on the windows. Can someone pry this open and see if it opens fine on their end? http://www.mediafire.com/download/k411pbxm26pd4dq/vsh_flat_b1.rar
The map looks fine to me, no weird stuff. The skybox is badass for it.
I get broken cubemap textures on the windows in both LDR and HDR. In Gmod and TF2.
Just nitpicking, but making a seperate section on the banner for contact info instead of putting it under the "about" section would really make it a lot easier to find.
Also, I'd tweak the search engine to make selecting a game not required - if it's not changed from the default option, then just show all maps from all games that meet the other given criteria, like size and name.
Other than that it's great. I'm looking forward to using it when it gets more attention.
Cubemaps in GMod are default for me, but in TF2 they are correct.
Hmm, I will try recompiling the cubemaps then to see if that fixes it.

Give this a go, this might work.
Minor typo :)
Why should you care?
Quality control. When you visit other websites that allow users to upload their own content (such as Gamebanana), a lot of poorly made maps map it to the highest ratings and a lot of the well made maps end up buried and forgotten. While some of the most enjoyable or popular maps happen to be dev-textured or shoddily done, dotBSP wants to commemorate the full-spectrum of level design (texturing, lighting, gameplay, etc.) and those who do it well.
maps on your mind?

Still doesn't work on my end. :<

Okay, so the search sucks. I'm going to be fixing it up some more because it seems to have crumbled into pieces over some basic searches.
The site could use a Random button, would be pretty neat if there were 100 or so maps. Really what you need at this point is simply more content.

Indeed. I still haven't gotten a response from my submission ): getting scared that I sent it to the wrong email. I know he's busy and all, but from the sounds of it, he has a group of people in charge of the quality control.
I noticed some errors or general problems in some of the maps that were e-mailed in.
ttt_mars_colony has this advert for itself and the author that I think takes you out of the immersion and is visually disruptive. I asked for him to redo it to make it more subtle.
gm_Uldum has both a small lighting error, and when you go underwater you can see the sky through the walls. I asked him if he could do something about it.
There's a couple of others that will make it onto the site including that modern looking map for CS:GO... It had solar panels and... gah. I can't remember the name of it! But it was awesome and that's gonna make it onto the site.
Even if the errors are miniscule, I'm going to ask map authors if that's exactly how they want it uploaded. I bring up errors and downsides in my articles, so if you're going to leave them I will talk about them.
If the errors are enough to warrant either a "wtf" response or it affects the visuals/gameplay, I won't upload it 'til it's fixed.
I generally checked out some other maps that were sent in and I can't remember if they were good or bad, but I recently started college! Yay! Give me a bit and those maps will make it up there.
I'm also talking to the CMS software community to work out this search issue. You'd think that a CMS would have a solid advanced search down, but I guess not.
Can we submit maps that we didn't make, but are still quality?
Got this from Basic Guidelines on page:
http://www.dotbsp.com/submit
"Your map must be yours. Variations of maps generally aren’t accepted unless there’s explicit permission from the author or the original map is open for the public to edit."
I'm going to change that and make it so you can't say another person's map is yours, but you can suggest maps by others.
are you kidding me? uldum and mars colony are not even that good looking... Dont know about the gameplay though. If you will keep uploading average maps on your website, it's more likely to lose its popularity before even getting it

upload classic good looking maps such as de_forest or some other good looking maps from interlopers spotlight archieve
You forgot to end the qoute for the link for mediafire.
<li><span class="caps">URL</span> to where your map can be downloaded. If you’re not sure where you can easily upload your map, check out <a href="http://www.gamefront.com/files/upload">GameFront</a> and <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/>MediaFire</a>. If you’ve uploaded your map to a site like <a href="http://gamebanana.com/">Gamebanana</a>, thats cool too.</li>

ttt_mars_colony seemed like a pretty good TTT map - especially when you put it against the norm for TTT. Uldum looks weird from a far, but in-game it's a nice little sandbox map.
Does anyone disagree?

Dude I don't think you should be asking for perfection itself, especially with source maps.

What??? Are YOU kidding? Uldum is a very unique and good looking map. TBH I don't know why it wasn't posted in the "most beautiful maps in source" thread. Mars colony looks above average for source maps in general, and WAY above average for TTT maps.

Thought de_forest was broken? At least in GMod...
do whatever you want, just said my opinion. Thought this site would be only for the very top source maps, and the not the ones which quality can be debated

What if you have high standards?
No, the bar is set at above average. I'm separating the bad from the great, not separating everything from the hall of fame.
In my opinion, dotbsp would be the most interesting if it only displayed the cream of the crop. Once maps that are "above average" get thrown into the mix the site becomes closer to GameBanana or any other mapping website.
Dude I don't think you should be asking for perfection itself, especially with source maps.
I'm not. I'm telling them, "hey, you have some mistakes here and there. Before I upload them, you might want to fix them. If they e-mail me back, I'll kindly put them up because the maps are awesome, but I'm acting in the interest of the author seeing as I do point out weirdness and mistakes.

I think that's a pretty big stretch.
I don't find it that particularly hard to get gamabanana to spit out "above average" maps for me by using a couple search filters. Sure you'll get something silly every once and then, but it works.
I don't think it's necessarily all that easy on Gamebanana. A while ago I was trying to find some great HL2DM maps that looked and played well, and most maps I ended up playing had extreme flaws that killed the fun they tried to create.
Could someone tell me exactly what makes ttt_mars_colony not worthy of being put on the site? I'm being serious about that - I'm trying to turn this into a discussion about what should or shouldn't be on the site.
From what I've played, it works well, and from what I've seen, it looks above decent, and it's definitely something different for the TTT community.
SEARCH IS FIXED just gotta come up with a page for blank results
mars_colony's lighting and atmosphere could use much more work
What's wrong with the atmosphere? O.o
I do understand that the lighting is quite poorly done, but what's wrong with the other one?
Also, keep in mind that the map is still in Alpha. Soundscapes, cubemap fixes and area tweaks are coming with the next version.
If only we could say rp_catisland should be added to the site...
Anyways, I kind of like how you're going about this site. Instead of only displaying the "top" maps, you're going for a more above average look on it. Sure, if you had only the top maps ever made it'd be nice, but then the still good but not quite as good maps get left behind.

If it's in Alpha, then I'll upload the finished version. Take into consideration what this guy is saying.
