I'm working on a forum to provide an alternative to e-mail. Staff will be able to discuss maps, users will be able to submit it with something that isn't e-mail, and no registration is required. You just log in with Steam. Magic. I've been busy with MyBB and erasing all the bloat. It uses mostly the same CSS and HTML as the real site: [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/965202/ShareX/2013-08/2013-08-28_22-08-29.png[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/965202/ShareX/2013-08/2013-08-28_22-07-58.png[/t] It's still not the best looking at the moment, but I'm pretty happy with all the cleaning and reformatting I've done to make a simple discussion forum. The gray box is gonna have something in it. Not sure what, though.
All I can say is I think the font-weight should be less in a lot of places. Orange titles and white text at top could be smaller font size. But that's just my opinion about that. Rest of site, layout and color-theme looks pretty sweet. Also the steam-login thing is great.
The gray box is gonna have something in it. Not sure what, though.
I can sort of see that gray box being used for a latest map screenshot or something, or maybe a sort of news feed?
Dude I don't think you should be asking for perfection itself, especially with source maps. What??? Are YOU kidding? Uldum is a very unique and good looking map. TBH I don't know why it wasn't posted in the "most beautiful maps in source" thread. Mars colony looks above average for source maps in general, and WAY above average for TTT maps.
Above average =/= most beautiful
Above average =/= most beautiful
Let me break that down for you. IMO (In my opinion): Uldum = beautiful Mars colony = above average
To be honest, if I want something that is above average, I'll check every map on GameBanana that has a score over 9.5/10. I expected dotBSP only to offer beautiful maps.
If only we could say rp_catisland should be added to the site... Anyways, I kind of like how you're going about this site. Instead of only displaying the "top" maps, you're going for a more above average look on it. Sure, if you had only the top maps ever made it'd be nice, but then the still good but not quite as good maps get left behind.
It's not released so it can't be added. And if it was, it probably wouldn't make the criteria anyway due to technical errors as stated in the first post of this page.
By the way, what's exactly wrong with Mars Colony? O.o I'd like to know it's downsides, so perhaps I could try to fix that. However, it's not that easy to make a multiplayer map that amazing looking, especially with people that have prehistoric computers around here. It needs to be capable of running on old computers with decent FPS + ~32 players online. Otherwise I'd put much more detail in it.

Well, it may be my monitor, but it looks fine for me. What do you exactly mean? The color variety, lightmap scale and such? Or something else?
I've submitted my maps Museum, Gwalior, and Cache for your review! Museum: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=127012360&searchtext= Gwalior: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=136819520&searchtext= Cache: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=163589843&searchtext=
I'm definitely going to drool over those maps when I get to them. Tonight I spent quite a few hours theming the forum a lot more. I hope you guys don't mind me working on the forum as much as I am. I seriously dislike the default look of pretty much all forum software, and there's generally never any good themes for any of them. Vanilla forum runs nicely and is a step forward in how message boards run but the software looks horrific. MyBB works but is extremely bloated and has too much stuff in your face. SMF is bleh. I've decided to go with MyBB just because theming for Vanilla the way I want to isn't working out in my favor, heh. But, because I'm using MyBB, I'm ridding it of pretty much everything that isn't the post, user, or barebones navigation. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/965202/ShareX/2013-08/2013-08-30_01-18-38.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/965202/ShareX/2013-08/2013-08-30_01-19-14.png[/t] I'd like to add breadcrumbs (navigation at the top), but you get the general idea. I realize I'm delaying content from being put on the site, but there's a reason. I'm now a freshman in college and I've got five classes, I'm doing websites for other people, and I'm going for jobs, so the time that I had over the summer imploded on itself. Thankfully, this week has been uneventful, I've got the three day weekend, and my college life hasn't gone into full-gear, but I know that it's going to. Rather than try to be kamikaze and tackle life along with dotBSP all together and all alone, I'm trying to be smart about it. What I have in mind is opening a forum for not only judges to discuss maps, but the public as a whole. Everyone can submit maps, everyone can discuss maps (provided they're not an ass about it), and if a map is well-received well I'll do a write-up about it and post it on the website. If it's not well-received, people are going to explain why, and the map creator can leave with an understanding of what to improve upon. A map a week sounds reasonable for me, as long as the forum is active enough to post that map a week. [editline]30th August 2013[/editline]
Well, it may be my monitor, but it looks fine for me. What do you exactly mean? The color variety, lightmap scale and such? Or something else?
I think what he's saying is the lighting is bland. It doesn't give a real definition to what the player should be feeling, and it doesn't really have a color scheme. Warmer colors will make the place feel inviting. Off colors (generally greener or bluer) will make the player feel uncomfortable. Extreme colors will give off a feeling of danger. When I played through your map I did notice that the lights where generally "white". I don't know if they were actually white, but it was extremely neutral and I can understand what GoldPlatinum is saying. I actually felt like it was a bit of an office setting - not because of the map itself but because of the colors and how they're more commonplace in everyday buildings. You can take it to the next level and make it especially sci-fi, especially creepy, or especially whatever you want. You can also build the lights around your color scheme, aka the color of Mars, the color of your props, etc.
Also, since the map's settings futuristic, why not add futuristic props as well
http://dotbsp.com/forum/ You guys can come in and see what you think. There's some off pages that I haven't got to theme yet. (i.e. searching) If you see any weird-looking pages or find any glitches post in this thread. I've disabled private messaging and going to your control panel atm. When you login it automatically fetches for your Steam avatar and username, and I don't think anyone needs anything further than that. Private messaging may come in later - it's gotta be themed though.
I have spotted a small issue; The text overlays the little map icon thingys. I know it is not an issue but you may want to create a favicon for your site. Also, I think when you go to the forums, the navigation bar at the top should be the same, and throughout the site. My screen resolution is 1280 x 1024 and I am using Google Chrome.
Good job. Hope this takes off! Also, nice site name. ^^
So when's the site getting an update?
I'm so absolutely sorry guys, but I've got a Google Calender reminder every Saturday to update the site with at least one map. I think that's totally fair, I think, considering college is ramping up considerably fast and I'm working on actual sites for some local businesses. ($fast money cash money$) I'm also looking for more submissions and more staff. I picked Stiffy to be one of the judges, and he's a nice guy. Something to note: you can post on other people's submissions and discuss the good and bad - the judges are the ones that ultimately duke it out, however. de_corbetura will be the next update on the site.
http://dotbsp.com/maps/12/de_cobertura bloop Also, fixed the footer issue, and images stretching too far off the page on the forum.
I wonder if I could get KeySIV in. I mean, there's not much to see and it could use more work. Raw version: http://dttcorp.fr/keysiv/ Light version: http://css.gamebanana.com/maps/163287

I'd have to open up and see what the gameplay would be like, though. There seems to be a lot of emptiness on first glance.
dotBSP ain't dead, yo. I'm going to be adding The Corrupted tonight! And when my brother gets his computer up and running (within the week, hopefully), I'll be taking a gander at 2019 by MaddaCheeb. Keep sending those maps in. EDIT: I'm a filthy liar! I'll write the article tomorrow at school. I've got all the files I need on the server already.
http://dotbsp.com/maps/13/the-corrupted kaboom, new article up. Also, the images on the front page and in the searches now act as links to the articles.
It leads to my Workshop page though.
Oh, that was meant to create a dramatic effect on the reader. It was on purpose. [sp]I've fixed it.[/sp]
dotbsp disappoints me. One more average looking map added to the stack..
[t]http://dotbsp.com/images/96.jpg?1380598438[/t] I don't think that's average. [t]http://files.gamebanana.com/img/ss/maps/517bc43e96f67.jpg[/t] I think that's average. The difference between laakkone's map and most other maps that I've played for Portal 2 is the sheer fact that his map replicates the Portal design quite well. It's not blocky, it's not copy+paste madness. It really does feel like an official Valve map.
This keeps being brought up about maps not being "quality enough" to get onto the site. I mean, it's wauterboi's choice as to what goes on there. If he likes a map and wants to put it on there, and it isn't bad, then what's the problem? That map just added is really good looking, so why is it a big deal? You gotta not set things to a standard so high that almost nothing can actually fulfill. I think it's a good site, filled with good maps, and it is continuing to be that way. Keep up the good work wauterboi. I really like the site.
