Looking to get some mushrooms for my cave :v:
I remember I made a crappy green glowy mushroom model...
want me to do stuff with this?
Open the HL2 Episode 2 2009 sdk hammer then?
I think in the future, we should advertise the mapping competitions better, and we should make it so you have to participate from the beginning and you must post updates at least once a week. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] And dropping out should have an impact on your participation in future contests.
I might be cool to have a leaderboard instead. Anyone who enters a competition gets a spot on the leaderboard. A win gets you 3 points, second gets 2, finishing gets 1, and a dnf gets 0.

I think that would lead to elitist mappers making it impossible for newer members to gain any stature. That system would only work with either a lot of quick contests that last a week or two (e.g. map a single room) or really long contests like those tf2maps runs.
Ends, lawl.

I wish I could show you guys our stuff without spoiling it.
You're all going to love it...to death...you're gona love it...till it kills you, until you're dead...heh heh...
Unnhg, you guys probably made 'The Ring' into a map.
That's a great idea, but it may put people off joining competitions later on.
Well...if they complete a map, they would be going up the board faster than those who enter and don't.
Still, if someone wants to join after, say, five competitions, they'll be fifteen points down. That would make me want to not bother competing.
Only if one person had won for 3 times in a row.
That is a dumb idea. Just keep doing what we are doing. Everyone's own fault for dropping out, and they don't get the prize. Leave it as is.
That is a dumb idea. Just keep doing what we are doing. Everyone's own fault for dropping out, and they don't get the prize. Leave it as is.
Just to clarify, i wasn't suggesting it replace any prize giving system, just as a matter of record.
Then it discourages people. Oh look at <username> they have 200 points (exaggerating obviously), no way I'm gonna win, may as well not even bother.

Oh, sorry, i'm basing this off the fact that i don't enter competitions to win, and thought it would be interesting to have a little table as matter of record, rather than anything that means that someone might win something. Evidently firegod can't understand it if it doesn't mean you win a prize at the end.
The 75 pounds that are at stake now for instance?
I still think we need a way to discourage people from dropping out. Perhaps by having more frequent, smaller competitions, or more in depth competitions i.e. people get judged on plans for maps, blocking out layouts and then for the final thing, as that would encourage people to plan their maps properly.
The 75 pounds that are at stake now for instance?
Didn't enter for that. And even if i won, i might refuse the money. I couldn't care less about winning, because that's not what its about for me.

Like: Joey: I am in. Add me to list. After 1 week: Cba to make anything lol, I am out trolololo too much effort..... So he gets blacklisted from this competition and next one as well. After that he can join competitions again. Kinda like penalties in F1 or other sports like disqualification for specific period of time. Not sure though how this would work out.. Just an idea.. So you actually spend time thinking to join or not, since it can be vital decision.
Perhaps, but again, it may discourage people.
You would get a load of half done entries of low quality to avoid being blacklisted. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Yeah, people can't always commit to things, no one will enter at all if they think they'll be penalised for dropping out.
You would get a load of half done entries of low quality to avoid being blacklisted. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But it is broken. Almost every competition, we end up with 20 people saying they're in and there's always like 4 submissions at the end. Personally, I think we should have more linear, shorter comps.
