The red-white plaster wall texture of the building on the right side of the picture looks wrong.
It repeats on each floor. Should I have the red stripe on the bottom floor and have the same plaster texture w/out the red stripe on the top two floors?
In my opinion, plaster walls were meant for interiors. Use an exterior texture instead.
Keep up the good work, man. This inspired me to start working on my own rp map, so far I have released some early versions of it on zshare for my friends to try and they like it. I am also looking for ideas to incorporate into my map.
I am also looking for ideas to incorporate into my map.
A super cool nuke bunker with a button that nukes everyone and crashes the server it would be fun and really cinematic trust me it's fun in all maps not even RP go ahead man make a cool nuke bunker and blow us away you see my pun lmao?!!?
When was the last time you saw a shop display. When I'm RPing I care 100x more about how much room a shop has in the back than how much is out front. Here is the shops system. Note the varying retail/back area sizes and shapes, but each shop has a pretty large back closet. [IMG_thumb]http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/yeoldshoppes.png[/IMG_thumb]
Uh. They all have the same floor. All have the same wall texture. Most lack windows. They don't have any interior at all. No cashier, No cabinets, No disk, no anything. Don't come saying "You can spawn those on your own". Well, It looks better if it's done by the mapper, INDIVIDUALLY for each room, It doesn't lag as much as having everyone spawn tables and disks and cashiers on their own etc etc.

You really missed the whole thing, pretty much. Each room isn't it's own shop, the red cells below are the shops. Props are hatred, dude. Pretty much every RP map that I've played on (not seen/used, I'm talking ones that get played in servers) do not have props in their shops, and if they do, they usually end up getting toolgun removed. Cabinets and a per-shop texture switch-up will be done.
There are still no props and they all have the same floor regardless.
There are still no props and they all have the same floor regardless.
Different floors/walls and cabinets. That's all I'm changing. Also some progress: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0004.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0006.jpg? and a hidden crime hovel that will be surrounded by buildings when this portion of map is done. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0005.jpg
Different floors/walls and cabinets. That's all I'm changing.
I'm sure he didn't mean props as in tables or chairs, but other kinds of props. Don't leave a room blank and 6 sided; it looks ugly as hell. Add counters or supports or whatever.

Same lamps. Etc etc. They all have the same doors. Lack windows etc etc. http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=showimg&v=42006_1 Here, Have a link to a pic from downtown. Most popular rp map ever. See those 2 shops? They consist of a counter and walls. They are not huge, because they don't need to be bigger. I mean. A counter atleast. Interior. I'm not talking about wood tables or shit. But stuff like. Shelfs, and other stuff. Sort of giving an impression of what the shop is going to be because a big empty room won't get used because it's simply ugly. Here's one example. It doesn't need to be filled with shit. Just a generic counter that looks a bit different for each shop. You can put your cashier on it, You can put shit for sale on it. But yeah, all shops have one. If you look at any good rp map they all have interiors. Look at c18, downtown etc etc. All shops, Have counters, Shelfs, windows, etc.
I'm sure he didn't mean props as in tables or chairs, but other kinds of props. Don't leave a room blank and 6 sided; it looks ugly as hell. Add counters or supports or whatever.
Thanks, You know what i mean. I mean there's all kinds of shit you could have. Counters. Shelfs. Boxes. Lockers. Besides, Rooms doesn't need to be square or even. What the hell, It's a shop. Most shops have a bathroom in it. The storages isn't just an empty room with 4 shelf props in it. Instead of having 10 generic shops, have like 2 food shops (No not ONLY FOOD HERE, but more like, adapted for resturants and whatever you know fancier interior, ovens and shit), bars, offices, shops for big things (Furniture), or small things (Candy, newspapers, microwaves). You know, In one shop maybe you'll have a big shelf and a counter infront of it. And in another shop you'll have counters across the shop and then a counter in the middle or something. Some shop could have some kind of burlger protect (Like... No way to get to store owner from the frontside of the shop) and other stuff. I'm not really criticizing you because i know that you're not done yet. It's just suggestions.
Alright, I get what you're saying now. Sorry for going off on you. Anyway, I think instead of doing anything that you said specifically, what I'm going to end up doing is have each shop have a variety of different amenities that RP shopkeepers have really come to enjoy. For example, one shop might have a lot of shelves and multiple counters where one might have a customer airlock (Where only one customer can interface with the shopkeeper at any point) and another with an item airlock (like the pawn shop in RP_Downtown) etc. etc. I don't like the idea of specifically designing any building for one particular purpose except very broad categories, which are as follows: Apartments Shop House Gangster Hovel Police Warehouse Garage Those are the seven categories I try to file all buildings under, getting no more specific than that. What I really like about C18 and Downtown is that buildings are vague like that so you can set them up however you see fit. Also I'm a little insulted that you needed to outline to me what RP_Downtown was :P
I like where this is going, keep it up.
[img_thumb]http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0005.jpg[/img_thumb] Does this have anything to do with construct at all
Lookin' good. Keep up the work. Also, rate me late if this has been posted/anounced earlier, but have you considered a 3D skybox?
Lookin' good. Keep up the work. Also, rate me late if this has been posted/anounced earlier, but have you considered a 3D skybox?
That's a definite. I just need to do the outermost geometry before even thinking about a skybox.
Looking great, what about a secret sewers system in the underground? It would be good for tactical missions by the Police or just for Mafia use. :D (Maybe you could access some buildings from it? e.g. Jail in police station) I don't know, It's just an idea...
New building that needs windows/doors/lighting. I'm trying to spruce up the geometry a bit. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0007.jpg Also a picture of the entire area. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0009.jpg
Your building designs look really nice. Not like anything I've seen before.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct22shhhgg0009.jpg
For the first link, Instead of adding more windows, try a balcony or a patio. Try and make different houses have different designs, so that there's a reason to buy that specific house, and not to buy it simply because its the last house thats unowned. On the second picture, The garage door looks very out of place, consider getting a new material for it. Also Imo that window is too close to the ground and too big. But otherwise good map altogether, dont try and fit everything in. When this is finished and finalized I'm considering getting a server with it.

I would just raise it up and have a road raised to go up to it. Not sure how to explain it.
Try and make different houses have different designs, so that there's a reason to buy that specific house, and not to buy it simply because its the last house thats unowned.
I'll definitely keep that in mind when designing interiors from here on in.
This looks so great! You are really awesome at this.
Also Sirrus, an outdoor construct-style pool for one of those houses would be good too!
Also Sirrus, an outdoor construct-style pool for one of those houses would be good too!
That might be in order. Here we are. Horrendous water texture, I know. Also a minor tweak to the last building I did. I have, since this picture was taken, removed that ugly thing on top of the building. It just throws the whole thing off. It's either going to be redone or removed completely.
I see you have considered some of my advice. That is good. The map looks good now, way better that before. Nice work.
Dx7 water. :ohdear:
Nice map. I suggest you to make a town hall.
Nice map. I suggest you to make a town hall.
How could this be used for RP?
