;19998443']Yeah it is, it works out at an adverage of 152 days. 3649 ÷ 24 = 152.04 days [editline]09:04PM[/editline] Well almost half a year. 365÷2= 182.5 days
Why am I getting disagrees? I can do the math, it's a month off half a year.
Why am I getting disagrees? I can do the math, it's a month off half a year.
22 Days off. Definitely close enough to generalize as half a year.
are you going to enable HDR lighting for the final version? beware of very long compile times though. and any new pics? [editline]06:47PM[/editline] -snip- my internet is really weird today, and posted this twice.

[editline]06:47PM[/editline] are you going to enable HDR lighting for the final version? beware of very long compile times though. and any new pics?
Bleh, I hate HDR. The final compile is already going to take forever, even with optimization. Regardless, I just don't like the way HDR looks on most maps. Valve pulls it off well; that's about it. Also, pictures of two new buildings:
Mmm. I mainly play acoustic and bass, although I'm trying to get into the bass more because everyone plays electric and most people if they play electric well can play acoustic, it seems. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I own a Blueridge BR-60. The bodies look almost exactly the same but the headstock is a bit different. I inherited the guitar from my mother, so I'm not sure exactly which guitar it is, just that is says Blueridge on the headstock. For strings, I play D'Addario phosphor-bronze medium gauge strings. Also I have an Ibanez GSR190. It's pretty not that good but I wanted to learn and start playing bass so I picked it up in a kit.
nice i am a guitar player too. Actualy i am playing right now. i've got a les paul chaped guitar and a stratocaster model no real one doh
The first building is great but for the second one you should just use a regular brick wall on the upper part, currently the texture looks a bit repetitive with the stone part at the bottom.
The first building is great but for the second one you should just use a regular brick wall on the upper part, currently the texture looks a bit repetitive with the stone part at the bottom.
That sounds good, thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not too keen on the upper level wall texture, but if you want to use it, make the balcony higher, so all the darker brick is visible.

That looks better. Keep it up man.
Why am I late? I was saying something completely different to Stupid Eye.
I thought the first building looked OK before... I guess it's not bad with that other texture, too... but I still prefer the darker one I think
I thought the first building looked OK before... I guess it's not bad with that other texture, too... but I still prefer the darker one I think
Oh, yeah, the brick one. I might tweak that upper brick texture a bit. It doesn't sit quite right with me either.
Will this be a v1 map, with extra buildings later in a v2? It's looking great and would be even better bigger. Good work!
Will this be a v1 map, with extra buildings later in a v2? It's looking great and would be even better bigger. Good work!
I'm pushing limits as it is. In addition to the seven surface buildings I still have left to do, I plan on adding a lot down in the underground including a seriously awesome underground apartment complex. And even before this, I was planning on making the map a whole lot bigger than it is now: I was going to have a large open outer area with scattered houses. More and more I'm seeing how unrealistic that is and was. Maybe as I get better with optimization I can add more to this, but at this point it doesn't seem too realistic for me to add much more than the buildings you see footprinted already and what I had planned for the underground. Edit: Just to give you an idea of what's going on, I'm at ~68% with brushes and, more importantly, ~75% waterindicies, which I have no idea how to optimize. The brushes I'm not too concerned about. I basically haven't done any converting of frames and railings into func_detail since I finished the center area: when I go through and do that it'll seriously cut down on the number of brushes.
Hey, I like the part where you couldn't think of your own theme so you just ripped of gm_construct. (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - grea$emonkey))
Glad to see the admins weeding out the losers. Map looks great. (In b4 late)
I just cut out about 531 brushes with conversion to func_detail, which translates into a 6% decrease in brushes. Now, what I don't know how to do is optimize waterindicies.

I thought we were talking about that crazy bloom effect that looks bad on most maps. also I thought compiling was more processor heavy because it's making a whole bunch of lighting/visibility calculations.

(cpu and ram) to quickly access the specs screen, hold the windows key and press Pause/Break. to enable HDR rendering to see what it does to maps, cordon off a part of the map(for speed), and under the compile screen, check the HDR box.
Intel Pentium Dual Core at 2.2GHz w/ 3GB of RAM.
I'm currently saving ~$800 for parts for a gaming computer. 3.0 Quad processor :D
only $800? that doesn't seem that much... for example, my friend's graphics card cost him $600. at the time, it was the third best in the world. I'm trying to find a way to use spare computers as graphics cards, so i can have two PCs in my case, and one is only used as a graphics card that can be upgraded. I do not think i can do this though.
all HDR does it makes the map slightly brighter, and gives it higher quality shadows and lights.
High Dynamic Range or HDR controls the tonemap, bloom, and a few other lighting effects. It's got nothing to do with the "quality" of shadows and lights. When executed properly, however, it can make lighting significantly more realistic, and can make visual light sources (i.e. light bulbs) look better due to how bloom is applied. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/HDR I personally believe HDR would compliment this map really well, but I suggest taking a look at this article: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/HDR_Lighting_Settings and others, to learn how to tweak it properly.

You gona add doors? Because those are kind of needed
It's not a full HDR compile, I just checked the HDR box on the basic menu.
