do you still need my pc for that final HD compile?
do you still need my pc for that final HD compile?
Yes absolutely please. Also I think that it's really an issue with my computer while the compiles take so long. I've heard that if a map is optimized correctly it will only take five minutes for a final compile but I did a final compile on RP_Downtown (The VMF is on Garrysmod.org) and it took just as long if not longer than my map. Also, I'm just about done with the shops. Each of them now have they're own texture scheme and special feature: -One has two windows that you can open. -One has a customer airlock (basically a smaller room outside the window with two doors so that a customer can walk in, the shopkeeper can close the door behind them, they can do business without being bothered and then the shopkeep can open another door to the customer's right, they leave, the other door opens again and the cycle repeats. -One has two windows, one opens to a room on the inside and one opens to the outside in the trench. -One has a garage attached to it. and there's still two I need to make more interesting. Or I might just leave them the way they are.
can't wait for this map looks really good
Please stop trying to bait another argument. Arguing on the internet just produces bans and hurt feelings with nothing accomplished and no one the wiser.
If you get hurt feelings from the internet then that's sad
If you get hurt feelings from the internet then that's sad
Not true. Of course you can get sad if you are getting flamed on the internet. Anyway. Sirrus, have you added a soundscape? If not, you should, it's rather boring playing on a dead silent map. Especially in RP. Also, 3D skybox? I think you should compile with HDR, then fiddle around with an env_tonemap_controller. A regular HDR compile makes the bloom go crazy and rape your eyes. This can be prevented with a tonemap controller.

Also I tweaked a few of the buildings so I think it looks a bit less overwhelming now. Also what would you recommend soundscape wise?

I would recommend making at least one indoor soundscape, and an outdoor soundscape. As for the outdoor soundscape, I would say a generic outdoor soundscape with some wind added to it.
I would recommend making at least one indoor soundscape, and an outdoor soundscape. As for the outdoor soundscape, I would say a generic outdoor soundscape with some wind added to it.
I was thinking three: underground/indoor/outdoor.
I was thinking three: underground/indoor/outdoor.
Yeah, do as many as you want. As long as they make sense to put in the map.
Yeah, do as many as you want. As long as they make sense to put in the map.
Is there any simple, cut and dry way to implement soundscapes? From what I'm seeing they're pretty hard to implement, involving a little bit of LUA and some serious know-how.
Looks absolutely perfect i cant wait for a release

Let me tease it some more with less ugly grass:

Soundscapes don't need any LUA. Here this might help. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/List_of_HL2_Soundscapes These are all pre-made ones from HL2 and whatnot
I was looking through the mapping section, and your map caught my eye. I managed to read every page, and can't wait to see this done. I think it looks really good, and can't wait to see what other maps you create later on.
That skybox looks extremely empty.
I'd be inclined to agree, but I think it looks fine. It wouldn't hurt to add a few buildings in the distance.
In my opinion, it should be a few construct buildings rather than full Eastern-European skybox buildings right beside the level. Build very low-quality construct buildings, the scale them to skybox size and spread them around in the distance. Also the hills could be a lot smoother.

Besides being a staple of Construct maps, the level of detail and the overall look of the buildings is a strong indicator that they cannot be reached because they're in the skybox.
the skybox looked better with the giant random grass. and does anyone have that map file for changing day?
So, you want it to look uninteresting so nobody has the will to explore what they can't? skyboxes are for decoration or realism...
yep. In my opinion skyboxes just need to be pretty to look at and increase the perceived size of the level.
any new pics? the last one was 15 hours ago.
any new pics? the last one was 15 hours ago.
Not really anything new to show. I'm pretty much adding a few underground rooms, doors, and waiting for a response to my soundscape thread so I can maybe add soundscapes.

are you sure there is nothing new? its been over a day now.
