As I said in a other thread, I think you should change those textures. Yes I know that you are making a roleplay construct map, but do you really have to have exactly the same textures? As long as you mange to capture that construct feel I think that you should be okay. Otherwise I think this map have improved alot since the last photo i saw.
I think that a morning kind of lighting would feel good in this map. Also, I'd say you should compile with HDR. If you don't like the extreme bloom it creates, it can be tuned down in the light_environment.
I'll experiment with some different lighting once the map's geometry is done.
Definitely. I'll add that to the map todo list.
Sounds awesome, thanks. You know, I don't know how the mapper did it, but if anyone remembers rp_venetian, somehow they were able to make the map toggle between night and day. If you wanted to figure out how they did that, I think that would be an interesting touch.
Update guys: Not going to be many updates for a while, at least ones that are really visible. I need to go back through and make all of my window and door frames trapezoids opposed to rectangles, made the mistake of using rectangles the first time through. Learned my lesson. Also I'm back in school.
I decided to use a completely different skybox/lighting just for grins. This isn't going to be the final lighting/skybox, obviously, but I really like the way it looks.
I don't think that there should be a jail beside a hotel.

It leaked and bugged my map heavily. I'm sure it's not the same case here, but you finally understand what carving does. Take your time and replace the mistakes you've done. At the same time, I can't wait to see a compiled version of this one. Keep up the good work!

I'll work on it tomorrow.
shit, looks great. Can't wait for the final product.
Looks ok, But when it comes to construct ur not ment to have windows, thats for the player to make..
Looks ok, But when it comes to construct ur not ment to have windows, thats for the player to make..
What. And good luck with your map - It's suprisingly decent looking for the theme you've decided to go off of.
Looks ok, But when it comes to construct ur not ment to have windows, thats for the player to make..
Regardless of whether or not I'm supposed to have windows, it would be unrealistic to not have windows from an RP standpoint.
Thanks man. The clipping doesn't seem too hard and I don't think I used it too much. I'll work on it tomorrow.
I started mapping when I discovered the clip tool fact
This map actually looks really good. I'd never guess, that it was going to be such an eye candy. I might actually get some ideas to give you. Or help you with something? I usually never finish my maps.
Sirrus, let me makes a custom skybox and lighting theme for you.
Very nice, I'll be watching this thread.
Hi Splinter :buddy: Nice map :D
Sirrus, let me makes a custom skybox and lighting theme for you.
Thanks man, I can't wait to see what you come up with.
looks great. Keep it up mayne
almost done fixing my run-in with carving.
Looks good. Don't forget to replace those dev textures with the nodraw texture when you are done!
Those be some thick windows
New pictures. Now that all that carving is cleared up, I can continue working on the map. Links because the pics are so big. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct20000.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct20001.jpg

This building isn't quite done (needs windows on the upper two floors) but I liked the geometry so much that I decided to post it. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d58/photobug101/rpconstruct20004.jpg
what type of buildings are you planning on doing?
I like how everything centres around the grass in the middle, it keeps the construct theme and would improve roleplay too.
what type of buildings are you planning on doing?
I'm going to add more storefront around the existing buildings along with possibly some more residential. I've got some good ideas for this map, though. I'll only say this for the overal shape, though. It's going to be a lot bigger than what you see.
Can you incorporate the actual Gm_construct in to the map on a level as if the buildings you are making are like the apartment building on an elevated level in the actual map. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Decompiling_Maps
No
Okay, fine mister grumpy pants. It would be kinda false advertising with the name, but its cool.
