The easiest way to get updates on this map is to scroll through some of the recent posts for pictures. I will update this post a lot less than I'll just throw pictures of what I'm working on right now into a post Howdy folks. I recently had an idea for an RP_Construct map, that is, an RP map similar in appearance to a construct map. I suppose it could also be used as a construct, but the primary aim is an RP map designed for DarkRP. Updated first page, finally. Here is the map in it's current state. Tell me what you think so far of the map and the idea.
Reminds me of the little town in Mobenix.
I think I might release a construct version of this when I'm done with no doors, but it's completely, 100% ridiculous from a DarkRP standpoint to not have doors.
'Alternate versions' isn't always a good idea.
'Alternate versions' isn't always a good idea.
Alright, then I won't.
Alright, then I won't.
Just do it.
Hello, I've been reading this thread and I think the map is turning out great. Keep it up!

New building. Pretty much rough geometry at this point. It's just dev textures, so I figured there was no point in getting an in-engine screenshot. Placement in the map. I tried to break up the "boring square buildings" forte a bit. Oh; also. This is either the last or the second to last building of the main square/rectangle. From this point in, it's going to be mostly buildings around the current buildings, smaller storefronts and single houses/huts.
If Lord Ned says it looks like shit...
What do I have to do to please the guy? Make a building entirely out of displacements?
What do I have to do to please the guy? Make a building entirely out of displacements?
Yes. No, just kidding. Ned doesn't seem to be a bad guy, for the most part I agree with him. It's just something with this map... I think his parents were killed in gm_construct or something.

Second of all I don't think I'm going to be getting any funkier than this architecturally, both because it gets difficult to maintain and I'd start to break theme a bit, even this was pushing it IMO.
Zally your post made me laugh :D Also, very nice map Sirrus! Cant wait until its released.
Double post. ^^
Yeah, my internet sputters like that.
I like it. :)
Thanks man, it means a lot.
Last time I checked, construct maps have no doors, only door frames
Last time I checked this was an RP map, and last time I checked, RP maps had doors. But to try and keep with the theme I recommend only putting doors to the entrance of bathrooms and houses. Just so you can lock your house, but don't put doors inside the house itself... To keep the theme. Oh, new page Edit: Agree with Da Fat Cat V3 ----\/
Ok. Notice how it has decent lighting, detail, a consistent set of textures, and props. Something that this map completely lacks. And all this took 5 minutes.
That doesn't come close to surpassing all the stuff here :colbert:
This map looks awesome. and for some reason, the building style on the left building seems very familiar to me...
Looks nice! Gonna play it when my PC gets fixed. I love Construction RP.
Honestly, I know you're going for the construct feel, but maybe you should texture it with realistic looking, not-construct textures later, like maybe a second release? I wonder what it would look like with regular textures.
I agree, I've said it already but I can't emphasize more that your map would look much better if it had a wider variety of textures.
From this point in I will use different brick textures than just 003a. Maybe different exterior plaster ones, too.
I like it. :)
I don't because it's dev
I don't because it's dev
I just wanted to get geometry before doing any texturing.
I do like this idea, and so far it looks great, but like the others have said, a little bit of texture variation would be nice!
I do like this idea, and so far it looks great, but like the others have said, a little bit of texture variation would be nice!
and like I had said, I'm going to do brick texture variation. Edit: Update. Added some storefront. Tweaked the textures on one of the buildings. In-game screenshot of the new building, still needs textures and will be done either today or tomorrow.
Everything looks great. How many more buildings do you plan on doing?
Seriously, the map looks good. But, if it's a map made for DarkRP, you obviously need more places for the gangsters to hide.
Everything looks great. How many more buildings do you plan on doing?
Not many. I'm at 30% brushes. Edit: Pretty much no big ones from here on in. There are going to be a lot of smaller one and two story storefronts, houses and condos.
