Definitely. I'm trying to make the center of the map the densest, with smaller one to two story storefronts/houses/condos with a lot more grassy area, and then a town wall before making very wide, open, construct-like plains with various scattered buildings (so that people actually have a reason to go out there)
Edit: unfortunately it will be a while before forward creative progress is made. Here is my to-do list before I can allow myself to start laying down more brush.

Anyway, I finished at least one thing. The building one texturing. This was one of the mac-daddy things that needed to be done, it's definitely the most visible thing.
Anyway, I think next I'll probably do lighting or all the doors/windows/walls in the most recent building.

How about this. Custom lighting when I do non-standard lighting stuff. Interior lighting, in my opinion, should be pretty consistent across the board. However, stuff like the outdoor corridors in this building (maybe the balconies too) I can do more custom lighting, along with underground areas and other outdoor areas.

Also, I monkeyed around with the lighting a bit; I cut back from like 350 to 200 on the brightness and decreased the inner brightness angle from 40 to 25, I like the way it turned out.

Not liking the light spots on the ceiling in the first picture. Second picture is decent. Make sure you change the lighting to something not pure white. It will look boatloads better.

Not as much as it should be- full compiles still take about ten minutes. I'm pretty sure 95% of everything that needs to be nodrawed is nodrawed, but I can't shake the feeling that there's a lot more I could use func_detail for.

Use some sprites with those lights. And to get rid of the spot on the ceiling just point the spotlight down abit.

Well, all the other mappers are either:
Not very organized
Capable of doing things right the first time so that they don't notice mistake after mistake when they playtest their map.
Also, I've just been doing boring optimization stuff, re-doing a lot of the stairways, some lighting, and adding more things to func_detail. I'm probably going to add windows and doors to the new apartments tomorrow.
