Mapping progress please! waiting for some this map seems like something that could be good.
Woot! Because roleplay maps lag like fuck on me. :(
I'll edit my main post for some visual progress. I'm not so sure about this being "lag-free," but it should run smoothly on an 8 man server.
I want some pics damnit! :D I really wanna see a whole rp city made of dev textures!
Aside from textures, I'm replacing all counter-tops with a walled structure.
Here's a rough example of that "walled structure."

I've made alot of progress on the map, and I don't plan on making any screenshots until its completion. However, I still need 10 comic-movies and about 5 building ideas from the public. If you feel like helping out in any way, PM me or post your idea in this topic.
Edit: That screenshot has been lit by Hammer, that is not the in-game result.
Another RP map... Atleast this one is original
The funny part is, it is using the most unoriginal textures.
Ahem...
I wanted to do that, but then I couldn't call it rp_devtown. The challenge's making a map with ONLY the dev textures provided by source, and then getting people like Cuel to want to play it.
Edit: I should have expected a few people to disagree with the idea. I hope the final product clears some of this up.
horrible idea for a RP map.
I also found a loophole. Nodraw isn't a dev texture, it's a TOOL texture. :P

Or you can just make a new vmt file for it to make it a normal texture out of it so it will actually show up as our ever friendly yellow texture ingame instead of invisibility.
It still doesn't change the fact that it isn't a dev texture.
Anyway, the map looks interesting, but I'm unsure as to how practical it'll be for roleplay.

2. The map's designed to provide, in my opinion, the smoothest rp playing experience yet. From easy, no hassle doors to rp playing instructions; this map was made for roleplay.
3. The game's called Counter Strike: Source. Join any aim server and be amazed, the textures look nice!
Your really need to work on your detail and make it look less blocky.

This pic looks very bland.
Actual criticism! Thank you, I'll see what I can do to make it more exciting to the eye. In-game should look better though, but there's no lighting as of yet.
I'll have to work on that too.

Yes, generally after it is actually ingame you will really be amazed ( as we all will too :)) But make sure not to post FB ( fulbright pics )

Information:
The goal of this project is to create a lag-free, safe, and entertaining environment for rp players.
As the title suggests, the map will be in 100% dev textures. I'm doing this for several reasons:
1. It reduces lag.
2. It speeds up the development process.
3. It's the unique style I'm looking for.
Aside from textures, I'm replacing all counter-tops with a walled structure.
Also, I'm changing the average rotating doors into the more efficient sliding door below:
More importantly though, I plan to create a theater with up to 10 comic-movies, all with synchronized sound.
Updates will be posted soon regarding the theater and how it works.

Lots of doubts so here's an early screenshot. Congratulations, you've all ruined my post theme.

would you like my dev blend texture? it's dev_measuregeneric01 and dev_measuregeneric01b.
No thanks, what I really need are comic-slideshows for the theater. I'd hate to fall back on the old 2 frame textures found in other rp maps.
Next time have more buildings per block.
Next time have more buildings per block.
No need to point out your mistaken observation, here's some simple advice, stop looking at the pictures!
That's exactly why I originally left them out. I'd like to hit the subject harder, but the concept isn't very hard to grasp.
Edit: There happens to be information above and below the picture, called text. I hear it's fun to read!
I may be able to create some buildings for you, give me a size constraint and building type/style and i can do it.
Although i won't be partaking in any full-on projects, i could do a building or two.
Edit:
Just PM me, and i'll get on it, although i'll be leaving this saturday.
It isn't going to reduce lag... just look like it's not done. Very few maps can pull off using dev textures.
You should make custom player models that look like something from Tron :v:
I just don't understand why you would try and make an rp map in dev textures. It won't reduce lag at all and frankly, it just sounds to me like you are lazy and don't want to texture it. You're only doing about half of the work as the rest of the mappers as far as I can tell as most people make their entire maps in dev anyways before texturing them.
Most of the map I"m working on is all in dev right now. I could just release it without texturing and call it rp_devtown, but I'm not going to because it could be 20 times better looking with the proper use of textures.

SHUT THE FUCK UP!
You guys wouldn't know style if it slapped you in the face! I came here because the project was started specifically for gmod, not that any of you are worth my time!
The map's being released at the true FPS, where they feature over 1000 aim maps.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
Edit:
Wait, why are you advertising fpsbanana? Everybody already knows about it.
Wow, that's really blocky!
You need to improve that!
I mean it! I know it's supposed to be blocky, so make it blockier! :v:
I should have ended this sooner.
Please do not reply to this topic, the map will be released sometime in June, wait until then. I never asked for C&C and I certainly don't want any of yours.
Good day!
Edit: Please, close the topic, I'm worn out defending myself.

No that's not style. This: http://www.fpsbanana.com/screens?img=http://image.hazardstrip.com/ss/maps/8437b.jpg is style.
Now i'll tell you what you need to work on. It looks very very emtpy right now and overly blocky. I haven't seen a single screenshot so far with props in it, they are pretty much required.
I wasn't complaining, this map looks great!
I love dev textures ;)
In fact, the only Half life 2 map I have finished, is in Dev textures.
edit:yeah closed lol
