This is one of my early maps when I was still doing tech tests for D3D. The last time it was modified was on 3/8/2001, but it was made sometime in late 1997/early 1998. I still have most of my early maps from D3D, but lost all of my Quake 3 levels from the infamous IBM deathstar.

Unrealistic. Florescent lights aren't omnidirectional, they only output light downward due to the shroud above the light bulbs. Make use of light_spots and VERY weak light entities (between 5-25 brightness max) for ambient light.

My first map was some kind of water-fort-thing with the fort being on grass, the water inside the fort and a randomly placed destroyable wall just outside. I still can't beleive I posted it on facepunch and tried to defend it.

Increase the outer cone on the light_spot so it has a wider casting angle. A env_sprite on the bulb would also help for a light halo.

This map was based off of a real movie theater I used to go to quiet frequently. Unfortunately, I had little to no experience with mapping, so the end result was quiet awful.
It was fortunate (or maybe unfortunate) that right about the time I had posted this map, the [B]Garry's Mod Idiot Box 6[/B] had come out, where in the beginning of it there is a theater. I'm almost certain my ridiculous number of downloads was due to people assuming that my map was the one from the video. Since it's not, people had ridiculed me, saying I stole the idea. See? It's both fortunate and unfortunate.

My first map was an old shack made of rotting wood in the middle of a snowy field, I wish I still had the file just so I could see how crappy it was.

So yeah, it had a very bright light_env, and it was just a flat desert place with a random house and a bunch of jumbled props. Although, i was proud of it, and the stone gate i made wasn't so bad, it was a good start I guess, even if it didn't work at all.
