IN my first HP map, (with only the interior of hogwarts) I made secret passways and doors and other things, and you had to hit some special squares with a symbol on them, if you've been in a special classroom the stone wich you hit, (if you went to the same classroom with the same spell symbol as on the stone) and it activated something secret, like a mirror to climb a floor up.

Is that first picture the clock tower? Or are you confused with another tower? At that exact place a clock tower is suposed to be. But doesn't matter ;), I am sure oyu can think of a creative way of chaging hogwarts a bit so it gets better to recreate in hammer with less brushes :P.

Here, look what I found! A original map of hogwarts, the true version (might contain some erors) but the basic concept is right! Alot of maps aren't from the original but this is!

That's a picture wich is about the same as the Google Sketchup model I found.
BTW the clock tower is that big building at the end of the bridge (at the side with the square and the broken fountain..)

I had to email a guy a long time ago for this map. It's very good. A piece of advice though. Hogwarts changes throughout the movies a lot. Not really the castle itself but the location of it. If you go here you can see some maps of hogwarts and the [b]entire[/b] surrounding area. [url]http://www.hplex.info/atlas/hogwarts/atlas-h.html[/url] Some maps on this site are labled extremely well. (The first few are rough sketches by Rowling and others. You can also find a map of hogsmeade and diagon alley on that site.)

I will take the liberty in creating a small piece of the exterior, just to give you some reference to work with.

Ok, because this thread is almost dead.. I started to cheer it up a little. I remade my own exterior with the new references I've found.
Not to hijack this topic, but here is some of the work I did this week.

I would suggest you something:
use 3d ripper (a tool what takes 3d models from games you're playing) and use them as a start. Use HP5, and make some nice models. Then take them to map, and you've got the most precise Hogwarts map. I don't say it will be easy. It will be hard. Very hard. And mostly it will take a LOT of time. But time is money, and money is good. So if you make a good map, under the minimal time, then it will be like gold. Free gold.
I demand that the moving staircases be implemented.

But thats like stealing the hard work of the people who developped hp5, and it wouldn't feel like
a map I made my own also :(.
And this is someone else his topic, I just remade my exterior. So I can't really take up this topic, seeing as Kroepoek is the one making this map. And as he studies now, I am sure he will pick up this project in a few weeks ;).
And if not, I will keep mapping on my own hogwarts also, so if this map dies, my map would be like a backup. This way I am nog stealing the idea away of hogwarts, but I'll be the second choice when things go wrong.

And yea, thats something I really like! Good point, gonna add it in the weekend, and as for kroepoe make a list of things you want to add aswell, seeing it is your map wich is in development. Mine is just beeing created in the shadows.
There's a chance I'll get back to mapping, not sure though.. With MW2 coming out and all. But we'll see in a month or so! [good idea that your mapping too, I would love to see just any hogwarts map. I don't care who made it]

How is that dumb? It makes perfect sense.
I simply did not use a skybox, because I was planning to make pictures from diffrent angles, and merging them in one picture.. With the background beeing black it was very simple to manage.
If I had a sky, it would look all weird..
