Since most of my current projects at hand are EP1, this doesn't really bother me, but I do recall having issues with the model browser a while back where it would crash hammer, it took Valve ages to fix.
They have always been slow with sdk fixes.
Mine works fine, now that I added -dxlevel 80 to the source SDK launch params. It crashed once when I was func_detailing some brushes, but that's nothing unusual.
They are not legally obligated, or even morally obligated. They offer the sdk tools out of the kindness of their hearts. If it broken, then so be it. Yes it is annoying, but maybe you should just use a workaround till they get round to fixing it. As i said, tf2 works fine.
They aren't legally obligated, but they're definitely interested in sharing the Source SDK to the public because it mainly raises a lot of support in general.

They are also very slow with fixing things. Just be patient, they will do it when they can.
Valve already have a working version, you know. They're just waiting to clear it for release.
They are making portal 2 right now, you know.

More than one dev team.
Silly.
You fucking idiot, it's too late to do that.
If you had turned off auto updates before the update downloaded, then you wouldn't have the update.

Calm down man.
I have been scouting for about a week waiting for a,
'Everything is fixed!!'
sort of post.
no dice :(

Yeah some people are a little agitated without their hammer to play around with- Including me.
P.s. What the hell is with your avatar?
I can't wait for them to fix it. I want to try out the new "Sculpt" tool and the Manifest thing.
Can I get some information on those? I attempted to google it, but it didn't come up with anything related.
I have no idea what people are talking about, is this Source SDK and why isnt this affecting me?
[editline]lol[/editline]
Damn, It is affecting me...

They are features from L4D2's hammer, they seem to be trying to update to it. If you have L4D2, you can mess around with them now.

I don't like this problem earlier, but I am willing to wait. When in the camera view I finally located my map though, I placed an ambient_generic and the grid did pop up. Trouble is, the entities were all black.
Rate me late if necassary, I was in a hurry.

Oh that pile of crap, Its better then my old A-PNG. Drew it in Infotech because I dident care for webdesign atm.
A least Episode 1 stuff works, I'll just make some random maps till OB is fixed.
I don't know what you guys are talking about, I don't seem to have a problem with Hammer.
I dont know if this is the problem everyone else is having but whenever I try and compile maps I get errors saying WARNING: node with unbounded volume, I bout punched my monitor.
This is a joke, it's been a week. Can't they just revert back to the old binaries. Ugh valve

It honestly should not take more than a week to find the cause of the problem. If anything, it's probably the instancing they added, since I've heard it was supposed to change how certain stuff was rendered through the view ports. Still, it's ridiculous. Fixing this problem should be their top priority as of now.
Considering how this has been going on for a while (about a week IIRC) and still no word from valve, I'd call it a lost cause.
My hammer works perfectly.

Knowing how long it takes devs to fix things, i say just be patient.
When this shit's over I am gonna run Hammer non-stop to prevent more fuck ups like these.
Way to go valve. Way to go.
I agree...way to go valve...we don't ever want updated tools, in fact...hammer sucks. Worldcraft will do us. I never wanted hdr, dynamic lighting, good looking water, particle tools or bump mapping anyway.
The people at valve need to get off their fat asses and roll back the update. I'm tired of having to wait for this fix, it already been a week.We don't need this useless manifest bull crap. If you're gonna give us updates that are going to break hammer, at least give us something useful like proper real time lighting.
I hate the fact that this also breaks proper, now I can't make models to scale for my maps.

Proper realtime lighting is more a thing that needs to be worked into the engine better.
