Nice work! Just one question, is there a large, grand throne room in the castle?
Yes! Offcourse there is. :) It's the big house in the castle to the right of the gatehouse... That house will function as the "mayor office"
when i saw the tital, I thought fuck, I'm working on a castle map, but mine is focased on a difernt part of garrys mod. Its very early in development though

looking nice:D
I think the forest house is blockly, much too much. The walls near the torches should have scourch marks on them, and the village needs a path to the castle gate, a path leading away off of the map, and a farmland. I don't mean the farm needs plants, as that would kill fps. I mean maybe they just planted, and there's the mound lines in the fields. Displacemsnts with mud, very easy. A fence around the farms as well of course. Also, VERY nice cathedral, but I think the holy symbol should be something fictional... maybe an "X" like in "Orcs"... that book no one seems to have read.
Looks great, keep up the good work! I'd like to see a secret passage from the castle to another remote location, like an abandoned house/shack in the forest. Monarchs could be very paranoid, so they usually had a secret way out of their castle (but people could get in the castle through it, too).
Maybe in the market there could be meat and other medival-like foods that could be eatible and give you 10 health. Perhaps holy opreh-like music in the church (such as main ment halo music)
You mean some choir music. I reccomend something by "Gregorian". They're a choir group that sings popular music in sorta the style of a gregorian chant. It's a pretty awesome sound. For example, here they are singing the Metallica song "Nothing Else matters"-
I was going to whine about there being no field, but it looks like somebody snagged the opportunity already. The only thing I can add to what he said is to add a barn or storage shack of some sort next to it. That monastery looks incredible. Well done!

And I will add a barn with a field next to it. After i'm done with the castles new house and cellar. Also, There's been a suggestion that I should add a fighting arena of some kind. But i can't see that real function of it, and have no proper place for it. Do you think there should be an arena?
Do you think there should be an arena?
Nope!
Do you think there should be an arena?
Not if it means we'll need to wait much longer!
Ok, i think i'll skip making an arena. If I make a v2 for this, there might be an arena on that one.
I think there should be... I'll locate the right picture showing the area it should be in and I'll Gimp it into exhistence.
well, since I can't seem to edit with the "ropey system", I'll just say it here. I looked back on the pictures and decided you don't need and areana... but I've never seen a castle with a "mayors office"... or a mayor... and now that I think of it, it's not really a castle since there's no castle... it's more a "walledenclosureonhill_gm" than a "castlehill_gm"... maybe next version there'll be a castle.

This map is turning out really nice, great job! The only thing i can suggest, is to change the basic grass texture to something that looks more uniform. That way it won't look like it's been stamped on there ;)

The mayors office is really throne hall of the local lord or whatever.. But if you call it mayors office, then people understand the function of it better. So, the throne room works as the mayors office. And, if your'e going to whine about the "non castle", feel free. But it wont make any difference unless you tell me HOW you want it. Not how you don't want it. And btw, what exactly makes it being a "non castle". So, HOW do you want the castle.
So, HOW do you want the castle.
Now we're talkin'! Okay... I didn't mean to sound whiney first of all, though reading back, it did come out that way, sorry. I also didn't mean a larger castle, infact, with such a small stronghold/courtyard/castle proper the castle would be small. I just mean there needs to be a fairly fat and squat stone tower, probably protruding out the back of the castle, that serves as a "main" castle, or main royal quarters. The castle bit thingy needs to be stone. Completely, except possibly the doors. There need to be no windows on the first floor, and there needs to be three floors. The first floor would contain a small room that is sparsely furnished, and acts as an anti-chamber. To the left in that room would be a hallway leading to some stairs out of sight (the hallway would turn, then go up some stairs and enter the kitchen). To the right would be another hallway, that turns in the same fashion, then goes up stairs, but instead leads to the second floor proper, where there would be a "meeting hall", or "grand study" for the royal family. The main corridor across from the entrance to the castle, would lead to a dining hall. Large, you know, big table. Then on the second story, halls leading from the study would lead to three different rooms, belonging to the king, his wife, an heir, and then the last one, and smallest, would belong to servants of the castle, and would house up to four bunks for sleeping. There would be two spiral stairs (not fancy or grand) that lead up to the third story, which is actually the roof, with small bastions on each corner, that are rasied up more than the rest, and have crenalations. Is that ample? When I say larger, I don't mean HUGE, I mean just bigger than the exsiting houses, not ridiculous, and I'm not actually expecting this to happen... just thinking it should. The castle stronghold (or whatever we're calling this edition) would jut out of the rear of the walls, and the third or second story would have at least one door that opens onto the walls, so soldiers can mount them and shoot arrows and what-not. I'll draw the castle layout (the outer walls in proportion to the existing castle), then edit it onto this message. EDIT: Okay, key for you. ~Green- Top of "3rd floor". Includes small bastions on corners. ~Blue- Side of second floor. Preferably where the door would be that exits onto the wall. Includes bedrooms study, and kitchen. ~Red- roof of what should be the "antechamber" or enterance to first floor. The rest of the first floor includes hallways and stairs to upper levels, dining hall, antechamber. Possibly latrine if you wish. ~pink- obviously the outline... this was done in paint and is sloppy, but you get the point.
Not all castles had a keep.

This can be cool if its made right. By right i mean size. Not to big and not to small. But i really like the way it looks now, so dont screw it up!
Ok, Take a look at the keep in this castle i'm also building on: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=715878 Is that somewhat like what your're looking for? And to, if I will make a keep, i'll just make the big corner tower bigger, and design the interior as you described.
Looks amazing! :D
Make that each rope on the draw bridge goes into a hole, it looks weird if it just ends in a wall, also make the drawbridge open/close able, it would be cool.
Make that each rope on the draw bridge goes into a hole, it looks weird if it just ends in a wall, also make the drawbridge open/close able, it would be cool.
The drawbridge is open/closeable, and it has been since the start. And i might add that detail with the holes to.
What texture are you using for the grass?
well, it should at least have a larger building, and I'd like a keep. (thanks for saying the word... I'd forgotten what it was called)
Can u Release a Beta Of castlehill ???
What texture are you using for the grass?
It's one f the "blendrockgrass" textures I think. half the map has detail props on it, and the other half doesn't, cause source won't allow you to.
I've made a keep now. And like I said, I made the big tower even bigger. I'll post pics the next time i'm playtesting.
