Here is a few tips: Delete this map, make something smaller, Use entities Like a Light_environment, Don't stretch your textures, make your textures smaller, align them. I got to about 300 maps (mostly small scale tests) before I posted any pictures of them because only then I felt I was at a decent standard.

And i like to think its better then some ppls first maps .

The whole thing is wip, no lighting to help you with, textures are all placeholder, and there is nothing ingame.

I can understand you're still working on it but if that is the case:- A) you should be using dev textures B) you should have basic lighting C) you shouldn't have posted it until the layout was finalised A lot of people coming here for advice just deny anything is broken and get defensive about their map. You on the other hand are pretending that you were planning to do everything we are saying but in a later stage. If we didn't think it would be useful now, we wouldn't have said it. That's why no-one here is asking about specific detail or finishing touches.
Restated, might not be seen in edit.. Wow, utter apologies for my elitist attitude.. ^Rephrased as "Oh mah gawd, where's the carebares"

B I already explained the lighting Close to non of the ''advice'' so far was usefull besides yours.

How do you think you got the other textures in your map, or did you actually search through every texture?? B) Maps need lighting, stop trying to excuse yourself from it.

[img_thumb]http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/6474/testminicity0000.jpg[/img_thumb] 20 minutes, dev textures, basic lighting and thin fog. Normally you don't need to justify the usefulness of your advice.

Okey so i added the light and the fog . As well as made sure that textures and buildings look decent (not all) Am i missing anything (besides the water ) The museum (and or movie plex) Look from affar Some of the smaller houseing detailed The same block from another view Other side of the block Full block from above TV station Hospital (have no idea what went wrong with the texture there ) Big tech company or something 2 Skyscrapers Church Supermarket (back(and church from side )) Background stuff (essentially ment to block off the background) City hall (or a bank) Building under construction Needle tower
You buildings look quite spaced out and they don't have a fluent style. Also, your textures are all different scales. You might consider making your own textures without the high amount of detail so it looks better from a distance.
Now slap some textures on that.
sorry for the thread hijack but I think you can get away with tiling textures like so... [img_thumb]http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6120/testminicity00002.jpg[/img_thumb]

[img_thumb]http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6120/testminicity00002.jpg[/img_thumb]
They are spaced out for a reason though . This is ment to be a movie set for like shooting giant monster movies (as one of its applications) But due to some ragdolls being either too big or too small i decided to give it some more room just in case . What do you mean fluent style ? Its a city , theres buildings in it . But if you are reffering to those cluster of small buildings then , they were put in so theres more variety other then just blocky and there are buildings like that in larger citys. So overall if you see diffrent styles its mainly there so theres variety in the buildings . When makeing a large city its kinda hard to keep track of all the (texture)scales really (at least for me) Also its alright . P.S Anybody know how i could make like miniature trees and such ? Like in De_godzilla ? Cause theres quite a few areas for trees
When makeing a large city its kinda hard to keep track of all the (texture)scales really (at least for me)
How is this hard? there is one Scale and that is the right scale and that's it, it's not rocket science to apply a texture and then scale it down to a size that fits along with the building/general scale. I am also going to say this that everyone has always been saying: Look at some real photos, get some inspiration from them and then compare it to your "map" that you are showing us

Also thanks for something that ive been doing already (not all pics from real life but generally lookin at reffrence stuff )
Starting to look a bit better
Can somebody help me out please ? For some reason the games lighting isnt working its all pitch black now for some reason ? Everything the light is ment to shine on is really black and dark.
