I foresee a huge wave incoming of 12 year old kids thinking they are ~1337 Mapp3rs~ sort of like after Halo 3 incorporated that "Forge" mode thing.
Well, If the map editor can only upload to a special website (There might be a way to save it as a .bsp, but the "1337" kids won't bother) we can just ignore it and compare e-Dicks with our maps.
If the program generated both a .BSP and a .VMF to be brought into Hammer I'd love it forever. I also hope that the whole in-game level sharing system allows you to upload both maps made with this program and BSPs made from scratch in Hammer.
Little big world scale?
This is pretty awesome.
We should stick to professional editor; hammer.
We can make more custom.

While I will most likely and undoubtedly stick to the lovely Hammer (which they better fucking keep available when these tools come out), I'll atleast be trying this out to see how it is.
It could be even more useful if it let you do the basic levelwork in the new tools, and then save it as a .vmf and just edit it in the Portal 2 Hammer later on for more intricate work.

Sometimes i just want to make a map in portal and not have to deal with hammer.
Besides, more GlaDOS? Sign me up damnit.
I have a feeling this thing is going to come out, but It wont be a map you can play, rather, just one that you can make one of those isometric view things and share that with people.

If that would be the case it would be quite an awesome and fun tool for planning your own maps
I would love that so much instead of hand drawings on a paper (or anything else for that matter), would give more room for messing around and seeing what comes out of it and see if you can incorporate that into your map!

Reading some other news feeds, it certainly seems like it will be a map editor that actually makes levels.
I'm sure they wouldn't make the isometric game just for the hell of it when they have a perfectly good working Portal 2.
This really is useful making relays and buttons linking to doors or stairs and signs that change color and all that. It is really a bitch to do them. I mean you have to fudge around the decompiled maps or do it manualy until you piss yourself and start punching the keyboard.

Once you get the hang of it, it's alright.
It's setting up the room and organizing a puzzle that gets me.
Tools that everyone can use...
Oh fuck what have you done Valve?

OMG only TEH ELL1ET PLZZZ vALLVEEEEE!!!!1
If it's not better than hammer then i dont care. If you can play whilst editing then it's good. It might be good for console players. But on otherwise, on the pc, we dont need it.
If we can import the maps from this in to hammer, that'd be kickin' rad. Without using a decompiler, that is. I want to work on the actual chamber shape + puzzle in this editor, and just about everything else in hammer (music, lighting, fog, details, other gubbins)

In short, he's saying that we'll probably be annoyed because anyone can now upload poorly made work and say they're great at mapping. Or possibly that we'll think ourselves superior to people who use this editor when it comes out because we use Hammer.
I think.
i'm guessing this won't be on console?

Alot of people get realy annoyed about "Noobs" using and making maps that end up being shitty or just dull. But it's not realy fair to them.
I think this editor will give alot of newbies the chance to see what they can do and move up to hammer when they want to do more. Saying that letting everyone have a go is bad is realy elitest.

I don't know about that, but from those pictures it looks pretty Console-adaptable.

Isn't that how people felt before they released Alien Swarm.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with this editor. It gives you a quick and easy way to tweak your puzzle. And no doubt it'll have an export to VMF function, so you'll still be able to have all your custom stuff included.
I dont know what i think about this. It looks like an good idea. But i hope it won't be like a 1000 noob uploads of crappy maps, and i really like how custom maps are made now, it makes us mappers look like pro's :D xP

I have a feeling this will turn out to have too few set pieces to be able to anything without making custom pieces like the alien swarm tileset editor.

How that would differ from Source SDK - mapping? :v:

This better not be what I think it is.
