ok, the name needs to be changed, how about gm_telitubby_land.
Go for it.

A emo kid can use those mountains to cut himself.
ok, the name needs to be changed, how about gm_telitubby_land.
That would get it more downloads. But people would be more disappointed.
That would get it more downloads. But people would be more disappointed.
I was only joking. [editline]04:26PM[/editline] a more relistic name would be gm_mostlyunflatgrass
Also I've seen worse maps.
Where? I gotta see those!

Why did everyone get a dumb rating? About the platforms map, I seriously like that one better than this so called unflatgrass map. Atleast those platforms give you a sense of privacy. Anyway, to get back on-topic, instead of going on and on about nothing or trying to be funny. Kingy... for how long have you been mapping and how many things have you made that you have never released because it was just to expand your "Hammer knowledge"? Do you plan on releasing any future (better) versions of this map? Because I think you should drop this, and either come with an original construction map that noone has done before, or make something for a different gamemode/addon. Try basic geomtry first, displacements is a rather big step for a novice "mapper".
I agree with Wokkel on this! Make some learning maps, but do not release them(you might to you friends, but no further). I have mapped for a couple of years now, but the only thing I have ever released is a beta(and a competition entry, but that does not count)! All the other stuff I have kept to my self, because I knew it was not worth showing. I understand that you want to make a popular map that every one downloads, but for a mapper at your level(hell, even my own level) that is hard! You should start of by some thing small. Try to map your house or a neighbors house. Something like that. Oh, and look at reference images and tutorials for inspiration and help! It does help a lot.
Make each displacement 256 x 256 or at max 512 x 512. Nobody wants to build on pointy hills like that. Your contraption will get stuck on pointy displacements like that. And It's really not realistic. Not even for mountains. Sure they look rugged from far away, but they are still natural and natural things get worn out after standing still for a couple of million years. To make really smooth displacements do them small (like i said 256 x 256, lower is usually unnecessary, 1024 will look good sometimes if your careful) and raise the scale of the terrain tool (forgot what it's called haven't mapped for a long time) to 1024 or 2058. I know 512 is max but just in the number instead. And don't select each one individually. Depending on how much your cumputer can handle, select all of them or like 16. Besides, I know you've been mapping for more than at least 6 months because i've seen and read most of your other threads and releases. I think you can do better than this.
1024 or 2048, kp3. OP has received a lot of good advice from many people though

I have been mapping on and off for for 6 months, opened hammer, made a few brushes then forget about it, I've got a few gig of maps that you can't even compile (totally nodraw, leaks ext) I often read tutorials for fun, without hammer open. I know how to make a good map but often I don't have the patience
Then why don't you take a mild sedative and sit down at the computer?
does weed count? :v:

[editline]09:15PM[/editline] And that platform back (not attacking OP) is a fuckton better than this map.
1024 or 2048, kp3. OP has received a lot of good advice from many people though
If you are going to have a lot of varied terrain you'd use a smaller scale. If you're going to be having really large and not that varying in height hills you'd of course use higher values since you won't really see a difference.
does weed count? :v:
No. I would suggest morphine.
