The "wave" effect is OpenGL mesh warping with sin(x), which is programmed into the engine. Source water was designed to support complex shaders on a flat surface. It wouldn't be possible unless you coded it into the gamedll or into the engine itself.

He means global dynamic. You shouldn't have to place expensive entities for dynamic lighting. And really, Source has it but it cant handle it, put 10 in your map and it lags for some.
