Well that means we can do that planet shells that way if noone can do xsi though im pretty sure bynari can but i dont think hed want to do them all by him self... we'll see i guess
Somehow rethinking the idea of turning a brush based sphere into a model in a level editor full of it's own little issues made me realize something. We're probably better off with XSI. Also, I heard Propper was getting support for displacements! : D
The creator of Propper is working on displacement support, but it is impossible to tell how long it will really take to impliment this feature, as displacements are entierly different things compared to world brushes.
Hey Guys, I'm back! I've been messing around with my water planet some more, and I think I've come to a solid size and layout. I've placed the Boat House in the map with a few tweaks and changes. I'm going to work a bit on the pathways and things that will go in the map this evening. looks good so far.
i love it looks awesome. also i have been playing around with lighting seeing as most planets will have a different lighting style (dark, bright, in between and so on) and so far have managed this its not amazing and once you start trying to light planets it could be hard but for me i'm happy knowing that my mars base planet wont have to be lightened due to other planets being bright etc. also will post pics of asteroid base later on in day
Cool! Using the Light Block Texture? The only thing you might want to beware of with that is very dark shadow's where the block is. Otherwise, neat!
Looking good! I'm still chugging along on the tutorial site. It's almost ready to launch, just need to find a home for the server (my apartment is hellish mess right now).
once you start putting it around planets in space i dont think the shadows will be a problem so fingers crossed. also would it be possible just to host the site on a free service for now like www.webs.com seeing as im sure none of us will mind you could also add .co.nr to the site adress aswell for now if you cant host it your self maybe..? [editline]01:23PM[/editline] First screen shot of the asteroid base it doesnt go into the asteroid but im working on that i might make another building on it that does go inside the asteroid IF i can get it so it doesnt look horrible but yeah heres the base
Looks absolutely awesome... But... Why is there a volumetric light coming out of the satellite dish? What's with everyone having light come out of there satellite dishes? Otherwise... Awesome.
Maybe a tesla beams constantly zapping around the dish would make it look better. :science: Just a theory.
lol thats just me :) [editline]04:16PM[/editline] and theres a reason for it which im working on [editline]04:19PM[/editline] also if someone/I could make tesla beams then i would

Also, if you ARE going to make an interior to that base, the asteroid might have to be bigger, it looks a little small...
its quite big but yeah i might have to make it bigger originally it was to big so i shrank it but i think it could work [editline]06:18PM[/editline] also i wish there was a way to cut displacements :/ to make it easier to make the interiors of the asteroids :(
Well, I would happilly chip in some money to get a website going - as well as helping out whichever way I could.
No need, I'm hosting it right out of my bedroom :) thanks though
You can do that? Wow, I didn't know it was possible. Oh well, need any help though I will happily chip in.
K so in the pics below you will see a couple of things 1 being the asteroid base and a new tiny planet i'm working on ( which is different to every planet I've ever seen :) ) and 2 being that i have put the lighting technique in and tested it and almost perfected it ( as seen on page 4 ) so basically ill explain in the images below. This first image basically shows both the asteroid base and the planet and how the lighting looks so how i lit them (you may know etc but anyway this is for those that dont) is first i put a block light around the planet. Then i put the lights at each corner of the planet. and made them go from brightest to darkest in the circle once i compiled this is how it looked from the darker side of the planet and from the light side of the planet and from a birds eye and done. i know its a semi tutorial but its more showing a lighting method we can use in this map so that not every planet is bright/dark and gives it more variety planet to planet. [editline]06:57PM[/editline] O and i call this method the round table technique :) for obvious to me reasons
I REALLY like that asteroid base
On first picture it looked like confetti being launched in the air(space?).
lol i get you now, it does from that picture would be cool do do that :) (for those that dont the trees on the colourful planet :D )
Very nice looking Asteroid Base! Just to let you guys know I'm still working on the water planet, I'll be posting a blocked out lay-out soon. Probably later this afternoon! : )
TF2 texture?
I can donate the Mextrose Dextrose from SpaceRP Ill hook it up with some blast doors, and boarding arms.
I can donate the Mextrose Dextrose from SpaceRP Ill hook it up with some blast doors, and boarding arms.
do you mean the asteroid base? if so feel free just ask and ill send you the vmf.
Alright! Finally got some more things done with the water world map! I've slowly been working on the layout of the market area As well as the small housing area. More pathways and supports will probably be added soon. Also, I've compiled in HDR: Comments?
That is one big planet. Looks good so far, though.
Wow! amazing job keep it up!
I like it. Although those stairs in the 2nd last picture look a little flimsy. And I know you said more supports would be added soon, but in the housing area, I think they should look something like this: I find that ropes comming out of nowhere is a bit unnatural. Try to make them look like they are comming out of something. Sorry for the large list of complaints, but you asked for what I thought.
Thanks for your comments guys! I hope this project isn't dieing! I'd post here more often, but I've been a bit busy. I'm working on a very small planet as well for this map that I will show pictures of once it's looking better then it is now... Is anyone else still working on their planets, etc?
yeah im working on the asteroid base and was thinking of doing another planet might go back and do some improvements to my first planet. anyone else :)?
I have a small asteroid base I have had on my Harddrive for about a year. I might go back to that. I also have a small underground base that I might get back to doing as well.
